Zenith Carburettor help needed

2 Attachment(s)
My No2 MK2* UC is fitted with a Zenith carb, the only marking on it is '350-23C'. This carb has a governor fitted which while probably sensible when being driven by heavy footed soldiers is a pain when driving it now, just when you want a few more revs to steer the governor cuts in. Does anyone have the knowledge / a manual to help me disable / disconnect the governor or can anyone suggest someone who could do this for me, preferably in the UK. I would like to keep this original carb rather than swop to a different type but it looks fairly complicated and I don't what to tinker with what I don't understand and end up with a carb that doesn't work at all.

Here is a good webpage that I use when playing with the Zenith carbs.

My rule re governors, whether on the Dodge M37, the M135, or the carriers, is leave them the **** alone. Clean or re-kit the carbs for sure....but stay out of the governors unless there is something terribly wrong with them.

All that said, I do look after carriers that are running the Holley 94 carbs without issue. Perhaps, when not under live fire conditions, one does not accelerate as much.

Mike, it appears you found the carburetor governor is marked ‘350-23C’.

The carburetor Canadian part number is stamped into a metal disc fixed above the float bowl. There is a removable filter in the carburetor too ... I am wondering if there is some other fuel delivery issue not attributed to the governor that is reducing your engine revs? I have only run the Zenith carb and have been pleased with it.

Swapping out the Zenith carb or altering the rev limiter appeared to be common enough about 1942 that a Bulletin was issued reminding the behaviour was not permitted, and disciplinary action would follow. If you are contemplating a change, remember to get the correct air horn profile at the top which will allow your air cleaner elbow to attach. Your choke linkage will need modification, as may the accelerator rod connection. The single barrel Zenith is mated to an adapter base for the intake manifold.

Thank you both for your replies, I have already rebuilt the carb which other than the nuisance of the governor works well. I am sure it is the governor as it cuts in if you try to exceed the speed in each gear as marked on the speedometer so it is working as it should. I'd just rather it didn't and allowed me to push the speed a little further in each gear!

Take the carb off, keep it for safe and put a Stromberg on
