Harry Anderson, Royal Navy veteran

WW2 Royal Navy veteran Harry Anderson is a member of my facebook group Fleet Air Arm's Flying Dutchmen as he served with a number of those Dutchmen, one of which was my grand uncle Johannes Blok

Harry made an appearance in one of the episodes of "My Grandparents' War". Actor Carey Mulligan explores the past of her grandfather Denzil Booth who served on HMS Indefatigable. Harry served on the very same ship and recounts the horror of a Kamikaze attack on the ship, which Carey's grandfather barely survived.

The photos below are screen shots from the documentary showing Harry talking to Carey - see My Grandparents War S01E04 - this link takes you to the section featuring Harry: https://youtu.be/E-gcDs5_d5I?t=1449. I urge you to watch the full documentary.

From https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...de-pilot.html:
Quote:

"Carey could not hold back her tears when I introduced her to Harry Anderson, now 95, who was a young sailor on Denzil's ship at the time and was on the flight deck just seconds after the attack.
Harry still has a razor-sharp memory of the attack. 'The smell, it was atrocious,' he recalls.
'It's the bodies which are burning and it's a sweet, sugary smell. You know. It's a smell that never leaves you. You always remember that. Even today, all these years later, I can still smell it.'"
I am very happy to see that Harry is still going strong and can share his experience with younger generations.
