Here is a thread for all you engineers involved in piling and boring equipment the attached image shows a no12 cab 3 tonner with mounted well boring equipment in Italy. The poor old girl looks like a ragged arsed ranger, any ideas who made the boring machine
cheers

That's the first picture I've seen of a CMP with auger and you're right, it is a raggedy-ass veteran of a few bore holes I'll wager. I wonder if the power for the drive comes from a PTO or if it has it's own engine? I have a picture on my hard drive of a G7163 Chev 1 1/2 ton with an auger on the back, and surprisingly, railroad wheels also. I'll upload it for you. I had one opportunity to operate an auger truck while in the service. We deployed to the Combat Readiness Training Centre in Gulfport, Mississippi and one of our tasks was to built a pole climbing and Overhead Distribution training centre for them. They had no Auger truck of their own but fortunately there is a very large SeaBee base in Gulfport and in short order we had one of theirs. (Great SeaBee museum there too, I might add!) The truck was an '80's vintage Ford 5 ton and the auger was mounted on a turntable with it's own power...a great roaring diesel that nearly deafened me. Everything was hydraulic and made pole setting a cinch, a far cry from setting poles by hand, a skill we had to learn in CFB Chilliwack during our Overhead Distribution course.

CHIMO!

Guess you all noticed that it is a C60L, not a Ford doing all the work. (Radiator expansion tank on LH mudguard).

At Packenham, Vic. Aust.next to the Princes Highway, just where it crossed the creek there was a Yankee Joe complete with auger, it disappeared years ago. Have a photo somewhere but could take a while to find.

There was a Yankee Joe auger truck getting around the Ferntree Gully/Wantirna area for years . Reg prefix JJ . It was a dull yellow and it was still on the road in 1978 ( last time I spotted it ) . Don't know what became of it .

I well recall the Pakenham example , spotted it many times driving past that yard .

Wow! Nice piece of kit, obviously works too judging by the hole that the owner started to bore. One of the many varied pieces of specialized kit without which our Armies and Air Forces would have been unable to complete their missions. I have many pictures stored on my hard drive of specialized Engineer kit which I'll be uploading over the weeks ahead.

CHIMO! Derek.

Great pictures Cliff, thank you for sharing them with us. I was looking closely at the truck thinking it was a F60T but it appears the wheel base is too long and I'm wondering if perhaps that is an F60S with the box removed and a fifth wheel hitch installed?

CHIMO! Derek.

I am pretty sure we used the 134in WB CMP 60S models as semi's rather then the 'T' model.

Here you go, take your work home with you. Acco 6x6 boring rig on OzEbay.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ex-Army-Acco-...QQcmdZViewItem
Starting price $5000, the Missus will love all those holes you dig for the garden, the new well, swimming pool (small diameter but man is it deep!) etc, etc.

No 'pile drivers' allowed on the MLU forum, we are all 'straight' I hope.
