Wow what a find thanks for sharing the pics with us, do they intend to restore it?? thanks again regards Ron

John OReilly 27-11-10 02:50

Ron,it was recovered by 36 Service Battilion and it's been moved indoors inside the secure area.My understanding is that is their game plan. Also, there are more still buried in the area where they found it,as the Americans used some as range targets when the M3 Stuarts arrived.

A very interesting fact is that they are in Dutch!

Saving them here as photobucket is going out of business (due to becoming unworkable):

Interesting picture made ca. 1946 in Bandung, Indonesia. It shows a variety of vehicles being repaired/ overhauled in a Netherlands Army workshop: Universal Carrier, M3 Stuart, Vickers Light Tank, and a Marmon-Herrington Tractor in the foreground.

The vehicles have a variety of backgrounds, including early WW2 Netherlands Army, like the Marmon-Herrington Tractor, early WW2 British Army like the Vickers. These vehicles were first captured by the Japanese Army, then the Indonesian Army, and finally the Netherlands Army. So this was not a case of "one careful owner", and the Netherlands Army had to keep a wildly varying fleet running with limited resources.

See MILITAIRE OEFENINGEN IN WEST-INDIE (military exercises in the West-Indies) for footage of Marmon-Herrington tanks in use in Surinam.

Scroll to 02:24 and 10:00 to see both Two and Three Man Tanks, plus various Marmon-Herrington trucks.

Enjoy,

Hello Colin,

Thank for the translation, I am at loss when it comes to Chinese. This is the translation John came up with, it is pretty close to what you said:

Normal Speed……...Highest Speed.

I hope that this helps, or dose it muddy the water more?

Thank you "Xiānshēng" (hope I got that right),

Hello John, I came across this newsletter of 36 (NFLD) Service Battalion.

Do you know if it this Marmon-Herrington CTLS is still there? I read about it passing into civilian hands. Or was that another one?
