Statement of Interest: New Production 10.50-16 (R-3) Implement Tires

After much consideration since a 10.50-16 (R-3) or similar size tire once available cannot be obtained, I have decided to attempt to make this a reality… I know it won't be easy, but I am willing to give it my best shot; hopefully with your help as hobby enthusiasts...

The preliminary specifications of the tire are:

Overall Diameter: 886.90 mm or 34.91"

Section Width: 254 mm or 10.0"

Sidewall height: 215 mm or 8.46"

Classification: Agriculture-Industrial Equipment/Implement
Construction: Bias Ply (TL/TT)
Certification: Same as the existing 10:50 x 16 Chevron tires. This will be considered an implement/Agricultural tire...
WARNING/NOTE: THIS IS NOT a 55-75 MPH HIGHWAY TIRE.

Style: R-3
Ply: 10/12
Thread Depth: 15/32
Standard Rim - flange: 6.0 - 8.00

Max Load Range: 1399 KG or 3086 LBS
Pressure: 3 - 4.5 Bar (43 - 65 PSI)
Load Index: 120 (1399 KG/3086 LBS)

Speed rating: F (50 MPH or 80 KM/H)
Weight: 22.6 KG (49.8 LBS) or as much as 26.3 KG (58 LBS)

Since I have to start from scratch, as of now, the cost per tire is in the $275-$300 range. There will be a $100.00 discount if ordering a set of 5 tires or more... In other words, every 5 tires ordered equals to $100.00 discount.. As for the time frame, 6 to 8 weeks to actually have samples made...

If you are interested or have any suggestions regarding the general specifications, or other questions please reach out... Thank you.

Statement of Interest: New Production 10.50-16 (R-3) Implement Tires

That is a 38" tire of a completely different pattern and unsuitable for the vehicles I have in mind...Again, I am trying to come as close to as I can to the wartime R-3 which was about 36" tall and 10" wide... This should work nicely on most Chevrolet or Dodge trucks that will accommodate 16" wheels... I can also supply the solid 16" wheels for the Chevrolet 1.5 ton trucks and eventually a 16" (8 bolt) two piece wheel as well, but that is another topic altogether different that I will address later...

The tire Adrian links to is the Specialty Tires of America (STA) 10.50-16. Is STA no longer supplying those?
We did get a bit of a surprise when they turned out to not be DOT certified, despite one of the initial suppliers of them saying they were. But they are a good shoe in for the 10.50-16. I only wish there was a chevron 9.00-16 on the North American market.

Oppps, never mind. I see you posted the answer while I was typing.

Hello Rob,

The DOT can be a deal breaker indeed, but most if not all the overseas tire manufacture'rs have their own equivalent DOT codes... As to their acceptance in different markets, that is another answer I do not have, but logic tells me that if you have the certification for a specific territory, you should be OK.

chris vickery 06-03-20 22:03

DOT “codes” do not translate into equivalents.
Either a tire is DOT rated (USA) or it is not.
Whatever level of acceptance it may have in another country matter not.

Well, I don't claim to be an expert here, but one company gave me a DOT code (MK) for their factory when I asked for a DOT approved tire for the US-just to see what the answer would be... Then I realized that for my purposes that did not apply, since in essence we're dealing with a product class that falls under the implement/agricultural tire category with a higher speed rating and load index than what is currently available...

Here is the wartime equivalent of the R-3, unless there is more interest on the Dunlop, yet I don't know what the original thread pattern was called or the exact specs of the tire...

tyre

The tyre on the Chev is from Jim's Indian pattern truck and is fitted (what I have always known them as) with a Sand or Diamond pattern tread. Seen on trucks, C8's as a 13 inch, 6 pounder, towed mortar and some Bofors 40mm AA. I think it was Olympic who made these in certain sizes.

Good luck with your tyre project.

Maybe you could team up with Barry Ring in the UK who is having Trak Grip tyres remade? At least you may learn from him what to do and what not.

Hello Radek, thank you for providing the link... It was great to see other thread patterns for the 10.50-16 tires, though I wish it had more detailed information about each model shown...

Lynn Eades 23-04-20 03:31

On the DOT rating. I was told that any tyres imported into this country for road going purposes, that do not carry a DOT rating, will be confiscated at the border and destroyed by customs.

Andrew Rowe 23-04-20 08:28

Lynn, does that include agriculture tires? How accurate is this information for NZ? , from NZ customs or NZ Transport agency?

I believe that law does not apply to agricultural tires at least here in USA...

Crapanzano 05-04-22 17:00

Hi, my name is Claudio Crapanzano, I would be very interested in 5 tires 15.50 16 (R3) with desert pattern.
How can we proceed?
