Interesting post-war rebuilding of jeeps.

Salvage Recovery

Quite a stark contrast from today's 'throw away' society.

The term Rapid Fielding Initiative was used in more recent times (post Iraq and Afghanistan) to do something similar or the same as what Operation Roundup did in Korea, which is perhaps also similar to what was done with the Jeeps post WWII. So maybe the term RFI itself is a case of reuse/ recycle.

So how's that numbers matching all F script restoration going? These guys certainly mucked up that effort :no4:

Rebuilds

Yes, this reminds me of a film I saw on British Pathe about rebuilding double deckers. All the buses were stripped and components rebuilt and then reassembled. The shop was even licensed to assign VIN numbers to the rebuilt busses. So a bus sent in for rebuilding was returned to service with the same serial number and license plates but might have no parts from the original bus.

Thx Allan...I was under the impression that it applied to those goofy-looking hardtop jeeps, The still photos seem only to have that set of initials when there is a hard top jeep...

Might just be an unusual coincidence. I was guessing, as I just searched the acronym RFI and that's the most relevant answer that popped up.
