2013 Corowa Swim-In & Military Vehicle Gathering

Hi all,
2013 Annual Corowa Swim-In & Military Vehicle Gathering, Corowa, NSW, Australia

The latest KVE Newsletter with all the up to date information on the 2013 Corowa Swim-In is now being sent out to those on the KVE database.
If you are not on the database, or do not receive it, please email Jan at kveinc@optusnet.com.au for your copy.

Thanks Richard for all your hard work in getting this completed. We were waiting on some information regarding the secondary location.
After the showgrounds and racecourse in March 2012 we have negotiated with the Trust to use these facilities again. Please read the following information and if you would like to camp at the showgrounds we need you to contact Neville Smith ASAP.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PARTICIPANTS
For those of you coming to Corowa with armour, vehicles and transporters, we have camping available at Corowa Showground.
KVE have definitely secured camping from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th March, however we have been given approval by the Trust that manage these facilities that if needed, we can book from Monday 11th to Monday 18th March.
The reason for this is that KVE will be charged $200 per day. As can be seen,
to make it viable we need to know straight away as to how many of you are
interested in using the site from Monday or anytime onwards.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING
 The camping fee per person, per day will be $10 each.
 There are showers and toilets on site.
 You will have to make sure you remove your own rubbish.
 You will have to abide by any rules and regulations set by the Trust.
 The Rotary Club may be able to organise meals on a couple of days during the week, subject to prior demand.
 No dogs are permitted at this facility, see advertisement in this newsletter for local kennels.
 Double the amount of undercover area is now available for the swapmeet.
Please contact Neville as soon as possible:
Neville Smith (KVE Vice President) on 0429 350 569
kveinc@optusnet.com.au
Please let Neville know what days you expect to be at the Showground and how many persons coming with your entry.
As you can see, the only way to plan this is to know how many people would like to use the site and when they will arrive.
Prompt responses to using the facilities will give us a good estimate of how viable it would be to hire the site from Monday onwards, or whether to do it from Thursday onwards.
Bindaree Motel and Caravan Park are also able to offer reasonably priced camping.
KVE is a volunteer group and many of our Committee members have been working hard in the last few months to make this next event a good one, but one thing is lacking, that is knowing how many partici-pants and vehicles are going to enter and what their needs are, so please help us to help you.
The Showground was first used last year for Saturday’s activities, and the overwhelming
response to the venue was excellent, so please give it a go.

Restoration articles wanted for next newsletter

A message to all past, present and future participants of the Annual Corowa Swim-In & Military Vehicle Gathering. The next edition of KVE News, the newsletter dedicated to the Swim-In, is scheduled to come out in January with all the up to date information for the 2013 event in March. As Editor of KVE News, I am looking for articles on your restorations along with photos.
If you have any interesting military vehicle restoration stories to tell, please send them to me as soon as possible. We will also be preparing a Special Edition of KVE News in printed form which will be in the pre-registered participants packs when you arrive at Corowa.
We have recently received confirmation of another successful application of a Tourism Event grant from the Corowa Shire Council which will help cover some of our costs of running the event as well as being able to give some promotional items to pre-registered participants. These will include a 2013 Year of the Trailed Equipment and Armoured Vehicle hat, a special bumper sticker and a pen, along with a few other items.
A good reason to get your entry forms in now to ensure you do not miss out. The entry form and recent KVE News can be downloaded from the website which is www.corowaswim-in.org
Look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards, Richard Farrant

Attention - to MV clubs in Australia

Hi all,
Just sending this on behalf of Jan, the KVE Secretary:

Encouraging new membership
There are people throughout Australia who are interested in finding a club nearby to join. There are a number of people who attend our Swim-in at Corowa who don’t belong to any clubs and they sometimes contact KVE to obtain an entry form or want to speak to someone who can assist them with a vehicle restoration. In our next KVE newsletter we would like to hear from Club committees who may like to promote their organisation to fellow collectors. If you are interested please send Jan, our Secretary details of your club including contacts so we can start and put together a list of clubs.

The contact email address is kveinc@optusnet.com.au

Jan Thompson 04-01-13 10:27

Thanks for the last post Richard. Being out in the country area for a week made it difficult to post messages on forums.

I recently sent off 2 Membership Applications to people wanting to join the AMVCS and with changes of Committees in clubs I would like to make sure I have the best possible contact for people who may ask me about joining a club.

We will post club information in our next KVE News which we would like to get out next week. We are also doing a Special Edition for Corowa 2013 and this may encourage people to join your club.

There has also been interest from Temora in having military vehicles present at their 2013 Airshows Downunder which will be on the first weekend in November.

After many hours of work the KVE Newsletter has been released. Thanks Richard for doing such a good job. I have emailed it to those on my database. There are a number of people who must have changed their emails so if you havent received the newsletter please send me an email kveinc@optusnet.com.au

Jan Thompson 21-01-13 12:07

Thanks Mike

Many thanks to Mike Cecil for his very interesting report on Trailed Equipment - The Mobile Laundry. I have had emails from people who found this report very interesting. Mike is also doing another report for the Special Edition Newsletter which will be in your participant pack if you pre-register.

Jan Thompson 30-01-13 11:12

Site Office Roster

I would like to thank Robert Pearce who is organising the Site Office Roster for Corowa. We are still looking for people to assist on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday. If anyone out there is able to help it would be greatly appreciated.

Many hundres of hours go into organising this event. You don't have to be a KVE member to help out so if there is anything you are willing to do to help please send me a private message or send an email to kveinc@optusnet.com.au

Jan Thompson 30-01-13 11:17

Help is required for the following duties at Corowa:
· Site office both during the week and people are desperately needed on Saturday while at the Showgrounds.
· Marshals for the drive from Bangerang Park to the Corowa Showgrounds
· People to help with the Auction and Presentations such as someone to write up the auction cards, people to collect the money, people to hand out the goods, spot bidders, etc. (this was left to the same few people in 2012 so we really need your help.)
· People to go around and ask participants to complete the survey forms
· People to hand out the daily newsletters.
· Setting up the site office on Sunday 10th March
· Cleaning up the site office on Sunday 17th March

if you are able to assist with any of the above please send an email to kveinc@optusnet.com.au

Jan Thompson 04-02-13 22:44

Thanks to those who have already pre-registered. With the number coming in at the moment I wouldnt be surprised if we get approx 250 people who pre-register. Our Special Edition KVE newsletters included with the preregistered entry packs look great and there are some very interesting stories.

If anyone is able to help out at the Site Office please let me know and also if anyone is able to assist with marshalling the vehicles on the Saturday. The Showground and Racecourse Trust have been in contact and everything is on track. Neville Smith has received some phone calls from people who are wanting to camp at the Showgrounds and also from people who want Swap Meet sites.

Those people with items for our auction please drop them at the Site Office during the week.

If anyone has any questions feel free to post on here or send me an email kveinc@optusnet.com.au

Hi all,
Just another reminder to those that intend coming to Corowa for this year's Annual Swim-In and Military Vehicle Gathering in March, to send your entries in to pre-register. By doing so you will receive a participant pack and special event hat for this year's themes of Year of the Trailed Equipment and Year of the Armoured Vehicle.

Just to dispell any rumours to the contary, the traditional Saturday drive will start as usual at Bangerang Park where we will assemble then proceed this year to Corowa Showground for the display and swap meet. For more information, look back in this thread or go to our website, www.corowaswim-in.org where you can download the entry form and see the last issue of KVE News, released in January.

Entries are coming in at a steady rate and it looks like this year's themes are very popular. Looking forward to meeting you all.

regards, Richard

I still need one more volunteer for Saturday to help Scott open up at the show ground. 8:30 to 9:30 please.

Jan Thompson 19-02-13 09:11

We have close to 200 preregistered participants now for Corowa. Just a reminder to those who havent sent their forms in to get them in by 28th February so you get one of our great packs. YOU DONT HAVE TO BE BRINGING A VEHICLE TO PREREGISTER!

There are a number of MLU people I know will be attending who havent sent in their entries yet.

water & ground update

I visited Corowa today and checked the area out.
The river is up and flowing, the boat ramp and grassed area by the caravan park is mowed and clean. You can launch boats from the ramp and move out to the main river area with no problems.
The ground is dry.
Check out my pics to give you an idea.
The bakery was also very good....

Radar trailer for new KVE HQ

Hi all,
As those of you who attend Corowa Swim-In will know, the Site Office for KVE during the week, is an office trailer loaned from the Shire Council. It has been our wish to have something of our own, which we can also store the display boards, tables and chairs, etc. in, instead of having to move them to storage in Corowa every year.

We have struck lucky and have now got a WW2 Canadian built Radar Trailer, which at present is up near Lithgow. This is where we are now asking for a little help from our loyal followers of the Annual Swim-In. Before we can move the trailer we are in need of some tyres for it, so if anyone can donate 7.50-20 tyres and tubes, we would be very grateful, we need 8 in total. With the event looming in a couple of weeks time, we are hoping that any suitable tyres could be brought to Corowa and one of the KVE members has offered to transport them back to Sydney.

The trailer will be taken to Sydney once the tyres are fitted and be repaired and tidied up then painted, we are looking for help with other things, such as paint, etc. Anyone in the Sydney area who might be able to assist with their help or assistance will be welcomed. Please talk to Jan or any of the KVE Committee about this, we hope to have some photos of the trailer on display at the Site Office for you to see.

It will make a unique focal point for KVE at the event and eventually it can be fitted out with desk and filing cabinets, etc.

If you would prefer to email KVE about assisting, please send to kveinc@optusnet.com.au

regards,
Richard Farrant

I'm planning to drive up early Thursday AM so will see you there.

Hopefully the DVD for 2012, Year of the 6X6 will be available from the beginning of the week via the office. It went to the duplicators on Friday.

I am planning to shoot another exciting Corowa, this one should be a beaut with so many unusual and interesting things, including the SC1 and of course plenty of trailers.

Next year (Year of the FORD and WW1 vehicle) I am hoping to be there as a participant rather than a film maker, the first time since 2002! So if you see yourselves as budding camera people for 2014 please speak to me this year.

Jan Thompson 02-03-13 11:23

We all love your DVD's so we hope some of the MLU members will buy one or two. This year Keith will have the Year of the 6X6 DVD from last year for sale at $35 and all the past DVD's for $30. For 6 DVD's not including the 2012 Year of the 6X6 you will get them at the bargain price of $120 and if you want the 2012 Year of the 6X6 included you can pay $130. Bring your money and you will see how this event has evolved and improved.

Richard Farrant 04-03-13 09:01

For anyone up in NSW or Qld who is debating on attending Corowa, the bad weather you have been suffering is not effecting Corowa or Riverina area. Forecasts from Bureau of Meteorology show next weekend, 9/10th March as being sunny and max temps of 31 and 32. The Elders weather website is showing Sat, Sun and Mon as 34, 35 and 36 degrees, so looks set to be a cracking week....... still time to get late entries in by emailing or phoning Jan.
