Dodge conrod bolts.

I have friends who are doing up an engine in an M37.
They ordered conrod bolts from somewhere in the states and were sent 3/8 diameter bolts (as per a T214 or WC series Dodge engine) The M37 conrod bolts are slightly bigger in dia.
Does anyone know if the wartime conrods are otherwise directly inter- changeable in the later engine?

If you contact Steve at Vintage Power Wagons or John at Midwest Military I am sure they will be able to give you the answers right away (and supply the right parts)

Hi Lynn
From what I can make of the information available to me the M37 engine (T-245) could come with one of two connecting rod configurations depending on early or late production.
Early would be the same as the WW2 engine with three rods of one type and three of another and single tappet oil holes
The later engines seem to have all six rods interchangeable with two oil holes so as they can go in any position. Assumedly, these are the rods with the heavier bolts.
Some of what I say is from inferences in the data. i.e. Reading between the lines and has yet to be confirmed.

Thank you Lang and David. I did wonder if an "improvement" had occurred.
I have another question in the same vein: I have a crankshaft with a smaller dia. thread in it for the drive dog. (front pulley bolt that the crank handle fits into)
Is this crank also from the later engine?

I have not encountered a 230 ci crankshaft with different thread for the crank handle dog yet Lynn but am not surprised to hear of it. CDDP seem to have played silly buggers with their engines altering things for no apparent reason such as the bore diameter of the camshaft timing gear hub for example.
