Lots of pics on Auctioneer's site, and that's just a partial listing so far!

Passing on to next generation

"Huge lifetime collection"... Owner getting old (or has passed away)? Must be one of the first generation collectors like John Belfield. Judging by the signs, it was some sort of museum.

Some pretty good examples there, will be interesting to see what the CMPs go for under the hammer.

Wow, what a collection!

And located in one of the better areas of the world for lack of rust too! I was not aware of this collection... it's in your area Howard and Tony!

Ryan 10-04-19 00:39

Farout!
A great collection.

hrpearce 10-04-19 12:33

I hope I am not needed on the house site I want to get to this sale.

Richard Coutts-Smith 10-04-19 15:52

We dropped in there a few years back, interesting and enjoyable it was too. Had a spin in the Cent, so it was running then.
Rich.

Howard 11-04-19 13:24

Collection

This collection has expanded since I last visited probably 5 years ago.
I first visited probably 10 years ago when he first started to collect MV's.
So, yes, he's only been collecting for a short time really.
There's some CMP's that aren't included in these photos, so I'm guessing that they are keeping some stuff.
The Batemans often visited Corowa and spent up at the swap meet, but had no interest in bringing a vehicle.
Should be a good weekend.

Apparently still running now. Some Vids have been uploaded to the Auctioneer's page.

The paint looks authentic enough, but I think the ARN of the Cent is supposed to be 169-055?

Mike Cecil 12-04-19 23:31

Yes, Tony: 169055 (no hyphen).

WA MG Carrier

If the ARN is correct (5124) it is a WA produced carrier (State Engineering Works), which was sold out of service in the 1950s from 3 Base Ordnance Depot, Seymour. At the time of that sale, the engine number was 3G33780F.

Appears to be nice and complete. That should get the West Aussie contingent motivated!

Mike

Wayne Henderson 20-04-19 14:09

nearly there

Hi Mike, looks like a late production hull of Vic or WA origin, but missing a lot that makes it a WA carrier.
Needs all steel idler and front road wheels, rear upper tool rack and correct air scoop. A look at the floor of the radiator opening will seal the deal.

Should make 35 - 40k as is, allowing for auction day loons.

Cheers, Wayne

Mike Cecil 20-04-19 16:56

Long time since manufacture

All good points, Wayne.

The ARN/hull number, if correct, is definitely one issued to a WA manufactured carrier, but who is to know what has happened to it in the intervening 80-odd years? An older restoration perhaps?

Mike

Room booked in Wagga, Vicki and I will be there both days.

Hi Robert,
Are you bidding at the auction? What you need is a bit of 'garden art' out front of your new home. I think there are some Furphys in the auction. They are all the rage at the moment. Had to help heave one off a trailer in Sydney last month.

Or are you looking for another Blitz? Best of luck on what ever you bid on.

regards, Richard

hrpearce 29-04-19 13:11

Still four days, twelve hours to go and the pre bidding is heating up;
carrier 38 bids $45,000.00
Tank 26 bids $30,000.00
WLA 11 bids $17,500.00
there are going to be some high starting prices Saturday.

Keith Webb 29-04-19 22:48

Bids

I hope the bidders have actually inspected the carrier!

Ganmain Tony 30-04-19 12:22

Hmmm

Ill be going for a look.

But looking at the prices already up I wont be buying much.

Wayne Henderson 30-04-19 16:50

Release the Loons

Inspect before you buy?

Kind of reminds me of the guy who bought the duck at James Swan Auction:blink:

jdmcm 30-04-19 20:38

Does anyone know the ownership history of the tank? It is being represented as a SVN tank, seems to be a decent runner...

John

Mike Cecil 03-05-19 00:10

Attendees to report on here, pleeeease!!??

Hopefully, the forum attendees at the auction will provide a full report on the forum for all of us who are a little far away to make the trip.

PLEEEEASE?

'ave a good weekend!

Inspection day today, when I looked the carrier didn't have a aircleaner connected.
Prices still rising.

Phillip 03-05-19 12:44

Caveat Emptor

Given the number on the Cent, carrier number could just be that the box is off a WA carrier, or just a made up......

Mike Cecil 03-05-19 16:20

Agree, Philip.

As I said in my two posts: IF it is the correct hull number, and even then, who know's what has happened to it in the intervening 80 odd years.
