Is this reproduction or original?

I discovered it at the weekend at the back of my shed and cannot remember where it came from.

Neil, that looks pretty right to me. the top (curved) bit is a casting.
If you pull it apart, can you give me the free length of the spring?

Neil Ashley 13-09-17 13:43

Another member has mailed me directly suggesting it is reproduction and I would tend to agree with this but I will take some more pictures. The spring can be compressed very easily by hand which I would assume should not be the case.

Neil, here is how mine are:
The top part has TL 12431 cast into one side. The other side says FMCO 42. These ones are not bronze.
There is a part number stamped into the largest diameter at the bottom (TL 12429) There is a part number stamped into the outer tube (TL 12433) and under that mine has FAACO 42.
The slot starts at the bottom with a ramp down from the surface and the top end finishes with a hole that is bigger in dia. than the slot is wide.
I hope that helps you to decide.
Lynn.

Seems I was little hasty in condemning mine but still not 100% sure on tube if people with examples can confirm. I note the small hole at the bottom end.

Niel, it still looks good to me. There are two pins at the bottom. The bottom one holds the tube to the base, while the top one does that too, it also holds the center rod. The "key-pawl- lock thingy" is correct.
BTW the inner tube looks to be a type of stainless steel? low grade?, I'm guessing.

Its no good to me so if anyone would like to mail me with an offer before it goes on to e-bay please do.

Anything Daimler Armoured Car could be considered as a swap.

The small hole Neil has referred to would be a drain hole (to let water out?)
A few photos.
Who was the FAACo. ?
Niels or Colins unit looks very original to me.

I would like to see the maker and TL part numbers on the tube and in the base before agreeing with Lynn.
It appears to have numbers in the base... are they stamped in or otherwise?

With compliments,
M.
