Outrageous 'Postage' ??

Now I always knew Aust Post charged like a wounded buffalo when it came to overseas postage to the USA - but now I've had a taste of an Australian bookseller's postal charges that leave Aust Post in the shade.

I ordered what turned out to be a booklet from Alexander Fax Booksellers, and was charged $51.54 AUD, which I thought was a bit high, not realising what size & weight the book actually was. When it arrived, the face value of the postage was $18 AUD. That's $33.54 AUD to stick it into an Aust Post card envelope and drop it at the Post Office along with all the other book orders going out that day.

I've tried to raise the issue with the seller on why so much of a difference between the postal face value and what they charged, but no reply.

So overseas customers beware!!

That is a once off from a crooked company.

Anybody overseas buying from USA on Ebay using the centralised posting system is really ripped off. Standard postage quoted on many items on Ebay from USA from companies starts at around $54 for say a pair of sunglasses or a jeep tail light.

Private sellers will send you the same item for a quarter of that postage.

The classic case of how stupid are the general public can be shown by the high approval of putting 10% GST on all Ebay etc sales from overseas "to make the big operators meet their tax obligations". How can they not see the farce of an extra automatic 10% going on your payment from YOU direct to the government. Not one cent is collected from Ebay, PayPal or any other seller who makes huge profits from Australian sales and still pays zero tax.

Yep, a once-off for me, Lang, as I'll not be going back to Alexander Fax Booksellers for anything else!

I have been stung, but hopefully my post will alert other forum members to be more wary.

It was/is a great little book, just a pity it came with such a large 'postal' charge!!
