Hi all

My name is Marcel Both and lives at the Netherlands(Close to Rotterdam) and since a 2 months owner of a UC.
Here are some pictures of my UC so you can see there is a lot of work to do.
The top armour is already new so no ID numbers but at the low hull(at the backside) there is the number 10115 C so far i know it is a Canadian Carrier
of they year 1942.
We have check the engine what was with it but this one is in very bad condition
so we have to look around for a other engine.
Soon some information about the progress.

Cheers
Marcel

Here some update
After some hard work the last weeks at my MK1 carrier,we have take away the new top armour, the tracks, the pedals, take out the engine and transfercase.
We wants to strip the carrier totaly and after grit blast we start to build up the carrier.
After we had open the transfercase and look inside we saw that we needs some new parts for it(see pictures).
So still a lot of work to do.

Lynn Eades 09-12-15 22:39

Hi Marcel, The transfer, I call the gear box.
The gear you show is the countershaft or cluster gear from a non syncromesh (crash) box. It is the same in Ford 4 speed and Dodge (WC) 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton 4 speed.

marcel both 10-12-15 21:22

Hi Lynn
Thanks for the information about the gearbox.
I have a spare gearbox of a 3/4 dodge so i will check this one
for use some parts for my carrier gearbox.
Cheers.

Lynn Eades 10-12-15 22:53

Hi Marcel, the spigot shaft(input) and mainshaft(output) are different. The rest you can use.

Hi all

Here a update about my project of my carrier.
Between some visits of military events and a busy period(the summer months) of my work I still found some free time for working at my carrier.
I have take out all the broken rivets and repair some bad places and start for clean up/paint some small parts.
At April i travel to Italy for visit 2 carrierowners for pickup some carrier parts.
I want to ask if there is some one who had a clear/close up photo of the connector of the accelerator rod what is on the leftside of the driver seat.
The one i have is broken(see photo's) but for the moment this broken part/the picture of the manual give me not enough information for repair this part and what kind of steel are use for this part.

Cheers.

Marcel.

Lynn Eades 30-08-16 21:20

Marcel, The material is spring steel, the same thickness (about 0.055", from memory) as the piece you have. The part you have fits in the hole so that will give you the length.
There are 3 leaves including the part you have. There is also a small steel clamping part that goes under the bolt heads.
This assembly is your main throttle return spring (there is another light one at the engine)
I will find a photo.

thanks for the reply with this information.I found this picture at the manual
and it's declare that the connector of the accelerator rod makes by 3 pieces
of spring steel, hope i am correct.

Nice Marcel, I have yet to start my two carriers.
You can use an old wood saw for the spring steel.
Good luck and keep posting.

Yes Marcel, three pieces, all the same width but different heights. In the picture they look bent, but are straight.

Colin Alford 31-08-16 07:18

Marcel,

This thread should give you the required dimensions:

3 weeks ago i visit a military market here at the Netherlands and found a nice lot of carrier parts(the 2 red lead parts i recieve from Adrian Mamzer).
I had bought also a package of wooden strips what belongs at the edge of the upper hull of a MK1 carrier.
This weekend i open this package and found out that this wooden strips are signed with the year of manufacture and a CTL number.
The year of manufaturing 1942 what is on the wooden strips will be a nice match for my carrier.
Yesterday i start work on the Diff of my carrier, take off the front part of the Diff
what is between the Diff and the gearbox.
The seal what was on this part i had take a way because it was damaged/getting hard so it had a small oil leak.
So now i had to find a new seal what will be not so easy i think.

Cheers
Marcel

Hi Marcel,
In England there are people who will make these seals, they are not a standard size. Try going to you local bearing shop and asking them, if not, the try this website;
www.jgelectronics.co.uk/oilsealuk/default.html
I recently had a Carrier owner from Canada asking about these seals and put him on to this business, Oil Seal UK. I have not dealt with them myself as I normally order through my local bearing shop.

regards, Richard

Hi all
Here some question about some parts what is missing at my carrier.
I have to remake the parts what is at the photo's but without some information
about sizes, width, thickness it will be difficult for me.
So if some one can help me with a description of this parts(the strip what is
on top of the gearbox, need width, length and thickness) and the 2 parts what belongs to the seat for the radioman/third person on top of the feultank(need all sizes of this parts included the holes) or want to check this at his MK1 carrier and can make a description of this parts than it will be helpful for me.

Cheers

Marcel

Michael: thanks for this information of the missing part on my gearbox.

Last week i did some clean up/paint work of some parts of my carrier.
Even the small parts have to be done and will take a lot of time.

Marcel.

This week i receive 2 seals that i had orderd for the drive coupling and for at the backside of the gearbox of my carrier.
Today i placed the big one at the drive coupling and fits perfect.
Also today work on the actuating rod and check the bearing support.
The balls of the bearing were very bad so replace new ones and replace everything after cleaning again and now it works perfect.

Cheers Marcel

Jim Burrill 18-12-16 21:54

Hi Marcel,
WHere did you order the new parts from?
Can you post the stock number/part number you used with the company you ordered them from?

I need to get the same things.

Thanks! Jim
