Repro Mills Bombs

I remember reading about someone in Canada making plastic or resin Mills bombs for reenactors.
Does anyone know how I could get in touch with this person?
I need 3 or 4 fake Mills bombs for a childrens Spy School event we are holding at the Camp X event in June.

Thanks

Dean

Have you tried making your own? Quite simple and turns out a good result. There are plenty of resin suppliers about who can provide kits for the mould compound and the casting goo. You would have to first beg/borrow/e-bay a No36, but from then on you dont have to worry again about light fingers at displays, or long grass on the grenade launching range! ;)

i have them for sale, and the transet box as well.

Only problem with ordering them out of the US is that they will have to go by courier. Canada post no longer allows even repro grenades and ordnance in the postal service, and it is usually when they are X rayed by customs that the problems start.

The guy here in Canada who makes them is Bossano Bob, who now resides in Ontario. Check his handle on the gunnutz sight, and he should be able to help you out.

One of the guys in our living history group is also making them. His are by far the best I have ever seen. The only thing they are missing is the weight.

The plunger is functioning and the base unscrews to reveal a fake detonator. I took one into work the other week to show the other people I work with. I nearly broke one of the computer screens when the spoon went flying across the room and smacked the screen.

Thanks guys...I want to use the Mills Bomb as they were used at the Camp...however due to the current "PC ideas", we can't have the grenades look "TOO ReaL'' ie painted up ect...sounds foolish I know.

I will try to contact Bob through that website.
Thank you all again!!

Dean Owen 10-05-07 11:05

Rob, do you know Bobs user name on that site?
I have registered and am looking for him there.

I saw your post over there, and added what info I had. One of the other guys will know whats up with Bob. I saw reference to him the other day on the milsurps forum, so I suspect he is still around.

Bob actually puts lead weight in to his so they even feel correct. I know he makes up the crates and fuses as well.

If you hear nothing in the next day, I can make some inquiries for you.

Ok I just got my M36 Mk I for a pattern. Now does anyone know where in Ontario I can source the material to make the rubber molds? And the casting resins. Hobby shops aren't what they used to be. Nor as many!

With luck I can make enough to fill my carriers holders. 6 I believe is the number.... correct? 2 beside the driver 2, behind the driver side bulkhead 2 behind the gunners side bulkhead?

If a transit case of 12 genades was stored on a carrier where would that have been?

Jordan Baker 02-09-11 00:06

I can save you a whole lot of work. My buddy makes the correct #36 grenades in resin. Hey come apart and have working internals and repo primers

When I get home tonight I will post up pictures and can put you in touch with him

No bias at all. They really are the best ones available. Nothing else has come close.

You are right, they are hard to beat! How do they go for weight?

Ralph Volkert 03-09-11 00:23

I am very interested.

I see Dean's grenade is stamped FW for Frost and Wood Canada.
My grenade is stamped M for Montreal Munitions
If Dean is interested he is more than welcome to borrow mine if he needs another master for some more castings.

Ralph Volkert 03-09-11 00:24

Should read Drew sorry!

Jordan Baker 21-09-11 04:06

Hey guys

Ok ive spoke to my buddy about the grenades. Yes he is fine with you contacting him privately via email.

So if your interested please email him directly, his name is Drew

dkodatsky@cogeco.ca

Price is $40 each. He is located in the Niagara Region of Southern Ontario, Canada.

Hello and Thank you, one of the Props builders I work with said he can make them for me...but as we have had to close the Camp X Museum in Whitby..it is a mute point now...the collection is now on long term loan to a Gov Agency in Ottawa, which will be building a Museum of their own in the future.

If your like me you end up with 36M bodies that are missing their bits and pieces. Here is a website that sells repros of the often missing items like the base plugs , the handles, springs, and pins.

Dean (Ajax) 22-09-11 23:13

Thanks Rob, I know them well..they have some great repro bits and are very good to deal with.
