modular tent centre sections - Ottawa or Eastern Ont

I need to replace the cover on my snow shelter. Twenty years is enough time for the canvas to show its age. I need two-three-four centre sections of modular tentage. The preferred fabric is the later vinyl.

Will travel in Eastern Ontario and West Quebec.

I have some good condition double door ends for trades. Maybe even a single door end.

Terry; If there is a chance of getting on an MLU Express shipment, I have a bunch of "like new" centers, that Ill trade for good ends. This could be a back-up option to consider if you don't find what you need locally.

Will the frames from the old canvas mod work with the newer rubberized tentage. I know that the grommets are spaced furter apart so the sections won't work with the canvas sections

All of the mod sections were interchangeable with each other.

Wayne: I have a half ton of the ends. If you make it out this way, I would trade you 4 to one for centers. 4 ends for one center.

Terry: I am heading out that way some time later this month, but just to the Hamilton area. I could possibly bring out some centers that far, or to North Bay, if you don't find anything by then.

But it is with some trepidation that I leave my Covid free area to travel into areas that are not so quiet. I am just waiting for temps to cool down, and to asess how Ontario's situation is. My plan is to eat and sleep in the truck to and from. Like Chef said on Apocalypse Now: "Never get out of the boat".

Sounds good boys! Hamilton is closer than Alberta. No one has picked up my question on any other forums. Either the guys who used to buy tentage aren't active, or there isn't much leaving Crown Assets.

The shelter is four sections long, three sections have been in the weather already for well over ten years and the fourth a bit less than that long. So, anything not yet killed by UV rays and exposure will be better than what I have up.

(( Now how do I get myself thru the GTA without getting caught in a mob? ))

Rob:

Who would you be dropping them with?

chris vickery 04-07-20 19:25

Terry, I’d gladly take receipt in North Bay and hold for you, I do get towards Eastern Ontario from time to time. I will be working in Kingston area for several months and may end up in Montreal at some point so you have options

Larry Mass 04-07-20 19:29

Hey Rob any end walls for sale?
Larry

Here in Shilo it all gets burned for some reason. Kind of a shame, as the long center sections are perfect for covering firewood when stacked in long rows.

I can drop them at Chris's place. Might work out for me as I could call it a night in that area, head into Southern Ontario the next day and hopefully get out Covid free that evening.

After thinking over the legs of the trip, North Bay is much more practical for me than Hamilton. The road from Ottawa to North Bay is much less crowded and even ruggedly scenic, compared to one more set of truck stops per exit along 401.

As for burning tentage, there may be some local agricultural infestation (or the dim memory of one) that prompted Crown Assets to destroy things. I know when we got kit back from AFG, it was obvious which big computer box or plastic folding tri-wall bin had been in the dust.

Modular Tentage

Perhaps the tents contain some U.S technology and therefore cannot be sold in Canada.....

chris vickery 05-07-20 16:32

Rob, we seem to be pretty much Covid free here on NB area.
Not that I worry much about it anyways, it seems business as usual up here and if there are cases, they’re not front page news.
Terry, no problem a road trip up or me down at some point.

Not sure about that. It seems more like they would just as soon not be bothered. They may be worried about guys "recycling" it through the system as well. A check on sold items: scrap textiles show several lots of tents and truck tarps sold in the last year.

There was a complaint a few years ago about a larger item that got sold on CADC form the base here. It was sold as serviceable, but was not. In the end, the buyer got it for free, and the Manitoba CADC clients were told if it wasn't serviceable it should not be sold. It ends up that a lot of otherwise saleable items are now tossed as scrap.

Chris: We have one of the lowest rates of Covid occurrences per 100,000 people in Canada. So when I leave this area into one that is 10 times the rate, I worry. For hand sanitizer, when I re-enter the car, I generally use brakclean. Pretty sure the chlorine in that product will kill just about any living organism instantly. Not for the people with soft hands mind you.

Terry: After discussion with Rob, it will be easiest if he supplies what you need from his own stash, as I wont be able to get an MLU Express shipment to him until September (and that's only half way to you). Ill replenish Rob's stocks, and get some of his ends for my own needs at that time.

I am not particular whose stash they come from. Rob and I have corresponded and he's agreed to supply 4 centres.

MLU Express

Progress Report - MLU Express

Looking at the time available and other demands, I decided to coord with Chris to pick up the tentage and some Universal Carrier parts for Bob Bergeron.

After visiting Chris, who remembered meeting me at an event a decade ago, and of course discussing M38A1s and Mules, we loaded the gear in my car. The return trip was uneventful.

Later this week I'll press on to points East for the last leg of the delivery.
