Can anyone identify the trailer
 

Hi All

My brother came accross what he says is a WW2 Jeep trailer whilst travelling in the outback. He sent me these photos and said he can get it for me. Only it's 800 kilometers interstate on a outback station. I note this trailer has a hand break attached.

Can anyone out there identify it as an authentic WW2 Jeep Trailer. If so, then it looks like another over the border raid coming up.

No expert, but looks like a jeep trailer to me. Missing the pintle ring of course, probably had the back cut into a tailgate? PM or e-mail MLUer Ian Fawbert he should be able to give Chapter and Verse as he has been setting up a trailer data base: Here

They do go for highly varied prices, oftimes not matching the condition.

It's missing the tow ring and landing leg, but those are available as repro.

Worth having, if the prices is right.

Thanks for the reply, I have been wondering whether it was worth following up. Any idea what year of manufacture it may be. It has rounded mudguards and a friend of mine has a WWII trailer but it has squared of mud guards, just wondering if it may be built by Bantam Trailers.??

Already stated my lack of expertise, but I think you will find the Australian manufactured trailers have the square gaurds, the American ones the round. Obviously it is easier to sit a beer on a flat surface......
One ton trailers are the same, Aussy are square gaurds, Pommy are round.
Considering that it is the week end, I would have thought you would have left on your border raid by now, maybe you need some tips from Bob.

I have been trying to contact my brother on his mobile re the trailer for a couple of days now as he is still in the area of the trailer, but he must be in an unservice area.

I have to admit Salesman Bob and I have already had a chat regarding a raid and as his partner in crime on a previous border raid we have it down to an art, How silly of me not to look at Aust digger logic, of course the mudguard has to be flat on to to place your beer and BBQ plate. Hope to catch up with you at Corowa 2011.

Well from the front shot I would have said it was WW2 US, but I didn't notice the WILLYS stamping before.

I always associate WILLYS stamps with either very early stuff, or immediately post-WW2 stuff, not sure which this is.

I think, on balance, if it wasn't expensive, I'd have it regardless. Landing leg and towing eye to look out for though.
