aussie 1937 chev/mapleleaf truck cab.

gday my name is luke randall and i have a few australian holden bodied 1937/8 chev and maple leaf trucks im planning to restore. can anyone tell me were i can find some original or repro pop out front windscreen frames.they have two hinges at the top that flow off the two outside stamped ribs in the roofline.they look to be different to the U.S. cabs frames.i have one bent brass frame and three rusted out steel ones and we have looked far and wide around eastern australia.even if someone could supply the same cross section of brass extrusion i could try to make our own.i would prefer to have the screens stay original and have the pop out option(poor mans air cond!)any help or advice or history on these trucks would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome

Luke,
Welcome to the MLU forum! An international collection of unstable people with an appetite for rusty old trucks...
Where in this wide brown land are you?
I know of a couple of these kind of trucks around the area, but I would love a photo so we can see what exact truck we are talking about. Photo please?
If you have trouble posting the pics, feel free to email them to me.
Howard.

Try to get a copy of Norm Darwins book. "The history of holden since 1917" .

Mike

I think those cabs were used on Bedfords also

Ask Eddie Ford, the publisher if he has a copy:

Mike, you might be right with the Holden cab...GM-Holden's used the same cab for instance on Vauxhall, Bedford and Chevrolet light commercials 1934/5-6, and in 1937-8 could well have done the same in the heavier line with Bedford, Chevrolet, GMC, Maple Leaf, and Oldsmobile trucks! The ML in the 1937-8 was a 'clone' of the Canadian GMC, with minor differences, and Chevrolet engines. The Olds trucks were also a GMC 'clone' but of course of the Pontiac, Michigan -built GMCs with the Olds 224 engine that was also used in GMCs! You might therefore find the parts you need in a Holden-cab Bedford, GMC, Chevy or Olds!

David
