Liberty Tour, The Hague: 5 May 2017

This year I am participating again in the Liberty Tour. This tour follows the route taken by the Dutch Irene Brigade to liberate the Western part of Holland. This was done after the German Army surrendered on May 5, 1945, so there was no fighting along the way. But the Allied Forces had to regain control over the occupied area.
The vehicles taking part in this tour are escorting the runners who have routes all across the country to bring the Liberty Flame from Wageningen, where the German Army surrender was signed on May 5, 1945, to many towns across the country. See http://www.route-irenebrigade.nl/ If you have a chance to join, please do as this is a really nice one-day event. PS: here are some pictures of last year's event: http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=25688 Attachment 89442 |
This is a video of the parade entering Leiden: https://youtu.be/lHSzQU9dcdw
And the Hague: https://youtu.be/wH0_B1oFFjE?list=PL...9UdHkrdV1ME7f6 I am passing by in my F15A at 0:35, one more F15A, two C8A HUW's and a Fordson WOT2 were part of the column (next to the more usual American trucks). Sadly an Otter broke down at the start due to bad fuel. More pics to follow! |

There were some other events and displays that same day.....one of them was quite close by in Purmerend; a nice display, organized by forum member Paul Visser and his friends. They brought the LAAT and a lovely Austin, along with three Jeeps and some motorbikes.

Another 30 minutes to the East, there was an event all weekend. We had a look at their camp site in Huizen.
Personally I was very impressed with the Mack LMSW, that I am guessing was recently restored. |
