Photos of DUKWs.
Hello all. I'm new to this site, thanks to my son-in-law showing me 2 photos of DUKWs sent in by Les Freathy. I was stationed at Fremington camp near Instow in 1960-61 and wondered if anyone else had any old photos.

The 8 June, 1946, Victory Parade in London, GB, had Amphibious Jeeps with the Royal Navy almost at the head of the parade (per the programme). They also had Weasels and DUKWS. Has any body seen photos of the GPA's in the parade? Is the IWM likely to have photos? Ian Grieve |

Thank you again. You can just see the back of a Weasel M29C in the photo. Maybe there are GPA photos in the set as well. I am endeavouring to visit the IWM and National Archives (Kew)early next year for GPA research. There looks to be quite a number of files available that may relate to the GPA and other amphibious vehicles. Please let me know if you have any advice. Ian |
Research
I must start offering to do paid research in London! A quick search of the Archives revealed just three interesting files but I think others have picked over them before. You can order paper copies remotely by the way for air mailing.
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/s...&x=39&y=11&j=t The IWM has a massive photo collection and so much of it is not online. The KID [Kidbrooke, as in Ministry of Supply, SE London depot] has a huge selection of photos including CMPs for instance and there must be more GPAs etc. in there. However I am sure that others have already done the same...perhaps anyone who has can come for'ard please? |

Following is a page that has references to GPA’s and DUKW’s on film; http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...highlight=seep I have not been able to find Film ID 1946.19, 1954.06 and 1954.07 of the GPA’s on the British Pathe site. Any clues? I also see the photos have gone from the page. Does British Pathe have an office in London (I have been able to see one on their website) that can be visited? Ian |
My apologies, I have NOT been able to see one on their website.

This one is still going strong! See this website: http://www.zeetochten.com/nl_home-home.php . The picture on this postcard was taken during the 1950s, and shows the same vehicle.

Many thanks David for your photos and links to other sites. Yes it is mainly 50s and 60s that I am interested in, particularly the RASC vehicles. The wartime photos are also of great interest. Thanks also to others who sent in information.

The Official RASC history talks of the British having amphibious jeeps attached to Amphibious General Transport (DUKW) RASC Unit at the landings in Sicily in July 1943. I am having trouble identifying such units. Can anybody suggest appropriate units? Ian |
