Newfoundland in WW2

Stupid question but before confederation in 1948 Newfoundland was obviously a British colony. Before the war Newfoundland was treated as an export market for vehicles, and also drove on the left. During the war did the Newfoundland Government acquire military vehicles in their own right or were they essentially Canadian-owned?

Newfoundland Vehicles

I do not know about Newfie owned vehicles, but I do know that the Canadian Army in Newfoundland uased Canadian home service markings.

A photo of my Dad with his WLC Harley-Davidson motorcycle can be seen on my web site at:
http://bcoy1cpb.pacdat.net/a_h_stevens.htm with DND number 42-1-5561

I have quite a few photos he took, his Newfoundland Driver's Licences, scrap book items, maps etc.

Hi. This is a little to the side of your topic, but I just wanted to mention that I recently learned that anyone posted in Newfoundland during WW2, was listed as serving `Overseas' My Aunt, told me she served in the Navy and was posted there as `overseas':D

Take care:)
