I can tell you there are lots of businesses (granted, many are run "on the side") that benefit from MLU´s worldwide presence. Some of the people who benefit from MLU also support it, but sadly others do not.

As suggested before, view the support of MLU as a subscription to a magazine, for the same cost you get a whole lot more!

Off my soapbox now. . . .

This body type fits nicely on long Wheelbase CMP

This is the same basic body type that I modified to fit my C60L sliced 10" out of the middle length wise. To get a reasonable visual match for the one of the Australian drop side boxes. It also makes my C60L a very useful truck for cargo.

And Used Ottawa has...

Looks like a recent (M35 era) shelter:

Grant Bowker 21-07-09 03:25

Rob, if you need another project....

If you want to restore the shelter (weren't most of these house bodies on the dual wheeled version of the chassis?) I have a copy of the CV-47 parts book for the body that says it was for mounting on the M207 CDN chassis. In general, this body looks to be more solidly built than the 2K1 body used on the C15A wire5. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, it is mounted on a chassis rated for over 3 times the load (or 6 times if you use the highway rating instead of the cross country rating).

Phil Waterman 21-07-09 14:12

Cutting 10" band out of that would be fun

I looked at one of these cargo bodies to see if it was practical to narrow it to fit on CMP. Given the gauge of the steel it would cut like butter with a plasma torch. But some of these were insulated with a paper type material that burns really good.

Cheers Phil

Phil,

This picture actually shows the early GS fixed side rear body (5D2 and 5D4 type), as discussed in the thread Chevrolet C60L with early GS body. I think you did a great job on restoring your C60L. But I am only mentioning this as it widens the options for others restoring 3-ton CMPs, as I reckon fixed side bodies are more numerous than drop side bodies.

Regards,
Hanno

Phil Waterman 22-07-09 14:35

Just use the term locally built GS body

Hi Hanno

That was the point that I was making is that a visual approximation of the GS body can be made up using modern cargo bodies. Even if this is a interim step while a faithful body is being built.

I should have noticed that the image was a fix side. Back in the old thread the term I believe "locally built GS body" was used to describe.

What I find interesting was that CMPs had so many variations of body styles and so many useful adaptations such as the drop side bodies.

I suspect that the large number of mixed and matched bodies is the result of many rebuilds and quick salvage repairs.

CMP for sale in Sherwood Park

There is a CMP rolling chasis and cab (13 I think) for sale in Sherwood Park, AB on kijiji. There are no doors or windows and it looks to be in good shape. Is $1900.00 a fair price? There is no motor but I believe there is a trany and transfer case.

Thanks

Wayne :confused

Wrong Thread

Moderator, could you please move this post to the proper thread? Sorry about the mistake

Wayne,

Yes I could, no problems, but what is the "proper thread"?

Hanno

WayneR 18-11-09 09:47

I thought it would fit better in the "For Sale or Trade"? Just guessing though.

Wayne

Hanno Spoelstra 18-11-09 10:00

Ah yes, of course. Done.

Can you provide a link to the ad?

Thanks,
Hanno

Here's the link and the pics.
kijiji
It's a Chev but it's missing doors, seats, fenders, motor, tranny, grille, radiator. The transfer case is there. It has the pintle mounting castings but no pintle. You'd have to inquire if any of these parts are laying around.
For what's in the picture I wouldn't think it would be worth any more than $500.

Maurice Donckers 18-11-09 11:11

Looks like a very good cab . It has ben fitted with a wireless Body .has square cut out in rear of cab for it.

WayneR 18-11-09 14:29

The only other parts that come with it are two gas tanks. Thank you for all the input.

Wayne

Bob Carriere 18-11-09 22:45

Tend to agree with David...

Good cab but lots missing....... even $500 might be too much....

Enlargements of the pictures shows all the 20 rim bolt/studs missing and some dents on rims..... only the wheel/drim bolts are visible....... a potential disaster fro someone removing a fully inflated wheel...... unless the rims have been (ouch) welded together.....

..... true cost/value is in the eye of the Beholder or beer holder.....

The last two CMPs in the Ottawa area did not meet the reserve on EBay at $500 and $600........

BooBee

Bob Carriere 19-11-09 03:50

Corrections......

Rims are 16 inch external half of the CMP rim that has been reversed and welded to regular tubeless 20 steel rims (agricultural) that have had the core removed.......
and they are dented......

Good for yard use but useless for restoration.

Bob

cletrac (RIP) 19-11-09 04:11

As Bob said the wheels are useless and I see there's no dash panel or engine cover. What you have here is a C15A parts truck. On the plus side you're right next door to it so to speak. I have an F15A that's basically complete except for the box that I'd sell for $2000 just to put things in the proper perspective.

WayneR 19-11-09 04:14

Does the 15A have the spare tire carrier behind the cab or just the box?

Wayne

cletrac (RIP) 19-11-09 05:05

Wayne, the Kijiji truck had a house type wireless body so the spare would have been inside it. The 15 cwt trucks used run flat tires until sometime in 1943 so just had a tool box between the box and cab. When they discontinued the run flats they put the clamshell tire holder on top of the tool box. That F15A I've got is a 1943 so would be right with or without the spare. Those tool boxes are hard to find and I haven't come up with one for any of my trucks yet. I'll just have to fabricate a few I guess.

There are some good parts there, window frames, bumper grill guard. The roof and front clip look good, somebody has already got to this it seems and lots missing. a couple of hundred bucks to pick a part but not more.

It has been listed off and on since spring. I decided to give it a pass based on the modifictions, likely abuse, price, useful parts remaining etc. balance.
