Ford CMP gearstick boots (reproduction)

I am about to have a run of these made from an original NOS item to make available to the CMP community.

Normally all that is left of these is the rotted remains held on by the small retaining plate on the gearbox cover.

These will be a great finishing detail for your vehicle.

I have been assured they are going to be identical to the original and made in black rubber.

But before I give the order to have the moulds made (it's a fairly substantial investment) I need to have a firm indication of the numbers I can expect to sell so I know I'm going to at least break even in this exercise. I'd like to place that order by the beginning of August 2018.

The cost will be A$65 per unit plus postage

So what do these fit?

They fit all Ford CMP models from Cab 11 to Cab 13.

(The Chevrolet boot is different and due to not having a NOS original I am not contemplating having these reproduced.)

The attached photos are of a NOS one I have. You can see how it was made from a two piece mould. I have had this in my possession since 1976.

Once I have sufficient interest there will be a small proofing batch made and I will post photos of those.

I'll be advertising these on the three Facebook groups - my one which is Canadian Military Pattern Vehicles, there's the MLU group and the other is Chev and Ford Blitzes.

Please feel free to suggest other outlets - the more orders the more likely it will be that this will happen.

You can either send me a pm or post your interest here and I'll compile into the database - it doesn't matter if you also register your interest in other places - I'll be collating them in one place.

Boot

Hi Keith,
Is a similar boot used on the HI / Low , 2WD & 4WD Shifter housing?
Do You know if it is the same size? Cheers Andrew.

From memory I don't recall seeing one intact on the transfer case lever - it would be a different shape though.

It looks like it did once have one but I have no reference image unfortunately.

There is a retaining piece. This is on a FGT.

Hi Keith, just for reference, because my cunning plan was to see if your boots would interchange on the transfer case housing shifter. Someone else might have an original boot for this housing to clarify the different types?.Cheers Andrew .

Transfer case boot

Hi Andrew

Is your photo from a Chevrolet? It's different to the one in the FGT. The actual tower does not protrude a lot on the cab 13 - the cab 11/12 tower comes a lot further into the cab.

It was from a Ford, C29QR ( Rear engined Chassis ), but the tower is common on Fords I believe , but just mounted different in the rear engine chassis configuration, Andrew.

Lynn Eades 15-07-18 10:40

Andrew, there is a tower weather pad "C291QR 8111125.
Pad-transfer case shifter control tower weather" No other info.
I would assume "pad" means a flat item (leather?) as opposed to a rubber boot.

Intentions to order so far (as at July 17th)

I now have 50 orders - some have ordered more than one which is great. :thup2:

I need 100 orders before I can justify hitting the go button so anyone else who is willing to order one please let me know. :coffee

Hanno Spoelstra 17-07-18 10:24

I’ll raise you one ;-)

Cheers,
Hanno

PS: you may want to contact a dealer like Stefan Leegwater of www.LWDparts.com to see if he’d like to buy some stock

Hi Keith,

You know me! I am definitely in for one.
Glad to see you are pursuing its production. Here's to cracking 100 orders. Thanks again for that wiring sketch.

Crunch time!

I need to make a commitment (financial) tomorrow (August 1st) to make this happen but I'm still a little way off having a viable thing here - if you are interested in pre-ordering please let me know ASAP.

Keith Webb 31-07-18 12:30

Wholesalers

If anyone is interested in a wholesale deal either in Canada/North America or Europe to help save on costs now's the time to step up!

Ganmain Tony 01-08-18 02:00

Suggestion

Perhaps the chaps that have put their name down for one might step it up and double their order.

In a limited run...I always think its sensible to have a spare.

By the way... I'm down for 5 boots.

These probably wont ever be made again.

Cmon Lads!!!

Sharing your logic Tony, i put my name down for one even though I dont have a truck to put it on. The logic of a spare is sound, though i cant justify 2 with no truck to wear 1 out on! Maybe one day i`ll get a truck again and if it helps get the project off the ground, happy to help even though it will sit on the shelf.

Hope you got near enough for the order to go ahead to day Keith.

Ian.
