C15A canvas

Two out of three gazzavac, you may note we useualy use our own names here:) and I'm sure we'd all like to welcome you to the world wide band of CMP owners by your real name.

As for somewhere in the states, the only place that I know is Beech wood canvas, there are several options in the UK the shipping will cost however.
Have a think and let me know if you want to take up a UK option, I'll post some names for you.........

Geoff is this thread better on the restoration forum?

Regards

Pete

Gary,

I see you bought Terry John's C15A which was up for auction at eBay. Great to see a CMP truck preserved in the USA!

Hanno

Tires?

Without trying to change the subject, what brand tyres are on the front of your truck, Gazza?
They appear similar to a WW2 sand pattern as fitted to many early trucks for Desert service.

Nice truck Gaz,

good to see a CMP in the land of the GMC Jeep and Dodge and a Chev to boot spot on !.

I'll post a couple of UK canvas makers here later tonight

Gaz

Here's a couple of UK canvass producers that the Oxford CMP crew have used/are using:

Under Cover Covers (no web site) Tel #44 0121 4441986 ask for Steve. This guy did the work for both mine and Steve Stone's trucks, he comes very highly recommended, however he is a professional canvass maker and he is a very busy man... lead times may be long.

Allied Forces web WWW.Milweb.net/go/alliedforces/ Keith Orpin is having a LAA canvass set made by them. I have seen their work and it looks good.
Keith will no doubt comment when he receives delivery.

Tyres

Pete

Spot on , they are the desert tyres , unfortunatly one is cracking and as they appear to be an original pair , I wan to take them off and get a repro set for trundling around on. Any clues where to find a set of tyres for the wee beastie?
What types can I correctly use.

Yes it is Terry's truck , the ebay price was too good to pass up for a truck in that condition, and besides I needed something more powerful than my Jeep to tow my 6 pounder with !! Honestly !!

I have got an inquiry into Beechwood Canvas but no reply yet.
I will keep you posted , and thanks so much for all your help !!!

The Jeep

The Jeep is a 42 Ford MB , I've owned it for 14 years and it has alwys been a wonderful re-enacting vehicle for me.
But now with the 6 pounder I feel it was asking too much of it to pull the gun around as well !!

Cheers

Gary

Gary, the subject of tyres is hotly debated on this forum - see 9.00-16 tyres and try a search for "tyres". Being located in the US, I think you best bet is to get a set of 9.00-16" US non-directional cross-country treads ("bar treads"). The sand tyres on your truck were reportedly manufactured into the 1970s. If you really want them, you could buy this FV 2501A 4 wheel, cargo, dropside MK1 trailer (Rubery Owen & Co Ltd) currently up for sale on MilWeb :)

Gary,

I enjoyed seeing your pictures, thanks. Yes, retire that Jeep and get a proper truck to tow the gun! It is historically correct too, 15-cwts were used to tow the 6-pdr. We have a couple of veterans of the 48th Highlanders on this forum, they might be able to tell you some more about the 15-cwt trucks used by their AT platoon.

Hanno
