I have started the long process of drawing up the 15 cwt GS body as fitted to many British vehicles 1939-45 .

BTW, what program are you using to do this stuff?

Hi Geoff ,

I use the "Paint" programe that comes with any Windows 95 onwards .

It's a basic draw and paint program for dodos like me ! .

The new ML forum format is great ! Well done

BTW Canada was bowled out for 35 runs in the world cup , currently being played in Sth Africa . It was the lowest score in World cup History !!!!!!!!

Mike, thank you very much for sharing these drawings with us! They are of great help to understand the construction of these bodies. Now, if Rod Diery also does drawings of his No 1 GS Body, I'll have enough information to be challenged into reconstructing a body for the Indian pattern FAT.

Your drawings are great. What they lack in technical protocol is well and truly made up with artistic flair and detail.
I would have given my right arm to have had these twelve years ago when I started rebuilding my C15A.
At the risk of sounding uninformed, has any thought been given by anyone to creating a repository of drawings. One of my labours has been the listing of all parts in an access database. Two vehicles have been completed and the intention was to cross link the drawings and pictures I have to this database.

This contract would be for a Morris-Commercial CS.8 "Truck 15 cwt 4 x 2 G/S" census number Z4546694 to Z 4547535 if anyone is interested. What an excellent drawing! Would the same have been used on the very earliest Chevrolet and Ford DND-pattern trucks?

Those were fitted with the Type 2A1 body, "very similar to the contemporary British design". See Colin's site http://bcoy1cpb.pacdat.net/cmp_canad...ry_pattern.htm for a picture with all Canadian 15 cwt Basic G.S. Body Types.

Looking at the drawings, I wonder: could the softwood 7/8" boards originally have had a tongue-and-groove to give the panels a bit more rigidity?

The original boards on this particular body I have been measuring from are not tongue and groove , but I believe some makers did use T & G on GS bodies .

These GS bodies were built by various companies so I guess some variation in detail is to be expected .

It would be ideal to have a data bank of drawings for various bodies . In many cases civilian owners chopped up the original bodies on their ex WD vehicles as they were not practical e.g. heavy .

I will be adding more drawings as I do them .

Can somebody confir me that the boards for 15 and 30 cwt are the same? No the lenght.

Radek, I made a 15 cwt body for my C15. There's lots of pictures on this thread.
The British built bodies used 3 1/2" wide boards for the sides but the Canadian built bodies used wider boards.

Now I have confroted any pictures in my PC. It looks that Austin Co. used another size of boards than anothers.

I hope that the thickness of the boards is the same.

That was my old web site . Looks like somebody has saved bits of it . geocities closed it down on me .

I never did finish off the GS drawings, for lack of information. I pieced it together from the remains of a GS body I have.

it was nice website.

I have only pictures :whinge and rare Austin K30 - 30c.w.t. with non original body. :(

It looks that anothers servived Austins are K2 - 2 tons, the GS body is longer.

Many years ago Mike Kelly had drawn up the basics of the 15 cwt GS body as fitted to the Morris CS8, Guy Ant, Fordson WOT2 and Bedford MW GS trucks.
Mike used an original Morris Commercial built GS body dating from 1941 as a pattern. The original 7/8" boards appear to be a softwood e.g. pine or fir. The wood has a salmon pink hue and may be Douglas Fir or possibly a exotic pine from Europe. The 15 cwt GS bodies were built by various companies from 1934 on to 1945 and they do vary in detail. It should be noted these drawings were measured from a Morris Commercial body circa 1941 and they will vary in detail from bodies built by other companies.
