2016 Annual Corowa Swim-In & Military Vehicle Gathering

Just a heads up to let you know that the latest newsletter is available to see online at the official Swim-In website, www.corowaswim-in.org look for the November issue of KVE News.

All the latest information on our event which takes place from the 14th to 20th March at Corowa, NSW, Australia. Get your entries in now, to ensure you get a participant pack. Forms are on the website along with booking forms for the Swap Meet on 19th March at Corowa Showground. The themes will be Year of the Tank, and Year of the Chrysler, the latter includes Dodge, Fargo and any other military vehicle built under the Chrysler flag. All types of ex-military vehicles are welcome besides the themes.

Those on our database should have received the KVE News by email in recent days, anyone who thinks they should have had it, but not got it, please check your spam/junk folders or send me a PM.

A new feature on our website www.corowaswim-in.org is an event calendar for Australian military vehicles and other events where they are invited. The idea was suggested by a member of KVE, as we have links with MV clubs around the country and the website can be a portal for seeking event information. If you or your club are organising an event and would like it put on the calendar, then go to the website and below the calendar is an online form to fill all the details in.

Best regards,
Richard Farrant
KVE News editor and committee member

Thanks Richard for doing the latest KVE news and also thanks to Chris Grossett (our webmaster) for adding more information to the website. We need other clubs and Corowa Swim-In participants to forward events. Thanks also to Diana Alan for suggesting that a calendar of events for Australia should go on the KVE website.

Land Rover line up & BBQ - Friday 18 March at 12:15pm

Hi all
We have received the following from Ross from REMLR regarding a form up and BBQ on Friday 18th March at Rowers Park. This will commence at 12:15pm

We have a "form up" time of 1215 for 1230 start at Rowers Park. We are aiming to place the Land Rovers in groups according to their age. A "story card" pertaining to the vehicle and a list of parts for sale or wanted is encouraged to be put on the windscreen (i.e., no parts at the event). This occasion is more than just for getting Landy Love photos. Enjoy some time to have a chat. Nearly all the vehicles have interesting differences and parts. A common question is "Where'd you find that?" While that is happening the BBQ area is available for lunch and drinks. There is ample grass for children to play and facilities. All Land Rovers are encouraged to stay until 1350 and to then join the other Ex-mil Vehicles at Corowa on the next activity scheduled to commence at 1400 at Ball Park. "

The KVE Radar Van will be used once again and over the past few years a number of participants who either are or are not members of KVE have helped register the participants in. Thursday 17th March 8:30-11am and 3-6pm

I still need two volunteers for the office; Thu 17th 8:30 to 11:00 and Fri 18th 11:00 to 13:00. please.

Jan Thompson 05-03-16 06:26

Well done Robert.

Dutchy has been working again on the radar van and it has been kitted out internally. Make sure you take a look.

The three hundred prepaid participant packs have been allocated. Many new people coming to Corowa this year and I have just received news Alan Newton will be with us again.

water level & condition

Last week I dropped into Corowa to check out the river level.

The lagoon and boat ramp are all accessible and the river height is quite good, many people with power boats in the water.

However, the condition of the water is poor. they have issued an alert regarding the blue-green algae outbreak in the Hume weir and that affects everything down stream. It is advised that you do not let it contact your skin or drink it.

They have erected large LED signboards at the weir to warn people of it.

Next year mate, next year.
I was at ball park for a short time sat night, catching up with Howard H. He pointed you out but you seemed a bit busy. Soon after I headed back to the motel.
I missed the MLU photo. I did a couple of laps of the swap meet with my daughter. Was about to head out when I spotted Richards' champ, grabbed the inter parts he so generously left for me and headed out for the arvo on other matters.

So I was only just there this year. Next year I hope to make it my first with a vehicle.
Ryan

The big picture

After not being allowed to go in the cherrypicker last year (OH&S being quoted) I took matters into my own hands and flew high this year. This still will hopefully give you an idea of the scale of the event, and because of the tree canopies it was necessary to fly over it a couple of times from different directions to see it all.
I was there for the photo - I don't know whose cameras were being used to take them, although I think perhaps Jan's was used at some point. But she is now blissfully on her honeymoon with her mind on things other than khaki for a change.

I did see a participant in the cherrypicker who probably had the necessary qualifications. Will see if he had a good group photo of the vehicles. We did forum photos for MLU and KVE. I spoke to Jan last night and it may be a week before photos are online.

It was a special week this year with a large number of new participants present. I was able to present the Life Member certificate to Alan Newton after the KVE meeting. Alan was co-founder of the event 37 years ago.

When I get home later this week I will transfer my photos to the laptop and post some up.

Great to meet old and new friends there.

best regards,
Richard

It is great that KVE is at last recognizing Jan and others for their work for KVE with Life Membership. So far I have worked out that Jan Thompson/Creamer and Alan Newton are the worthy recipients but who was the third?

Congratulations Jan, Alan and ?

Regards Rick.

Engine the Sentinel Tank used (actually it used three of them).

Everyman Van.. Similar role to the Salvo's. Philanthropic group that spend a lot of time looking after the army. They decided to generously support the Corowa event this year.
