The way you are rugged up Geoff the weather must be getting a bit cool over your way, so it seems for the time for an Aussie Rum, to keep you warm on those long cold winter nights, it also brings a smile to your face, and is supposed to temporarily cure any ailments you may have.

When are planning your visit down under to try this wonderful elixir?

Well, the wind chill factor was below zero (C) that day, and this was one of the few moments when the sun was out. Anyway, anytime is beer-time, and yes, I could have used a few ounces of good Aussie rum or good Canuck rye, but I had an hour's drive ahead of me!

Ref your question, the Empress and I will be down your way when we find three weeks spare and about $5000 of loose change! Count on it... :)

Dirk, it was good to see you and Stefan again, and I look forward to seeing you again next summer at Normandy! Stefan, I demand the first ride in your C15TA!!!

Canadians and bundy rum
 

WE have a young fello staying with us for 5 months who happens to come from Ontario . Last week he was put to the test when he had to walk from watching the local Rodeo down to the pub in the mainstreet a distance of 700 metre all down hill. Well after consuming the bundy he didn't make it all the way and was finally found sound asleep on someones garden bed, after looking for over 1/2 an hour for him. As Aaron announced bloody Canadians can't hold their drink. Next morning the poor fellow had no idea what had come over him and didn't remember a thing.

After a couple of days he came good.

Thanks to Churcher's Staging Yard and the Leegwater CMP shipping company, I just downed a Molson Dry beer. Shortly before Christmas I visited Dirk to pick up the Ford 15-cwt parts I bought from Geoff, and a bottle of Molson Dry was included. Great stuff - thanks Geoff!

To say thanks for his help, I surprised Dirk with some bottles of Hillegom-brewed Leeghwater beer.

Why is it that CMPs and beer go so well together? :)

You certainly know how to wind people up, laying back in a boat, ice cold VB in hand, aagghh....

Some years ago, I was detached to the RAEME workshops at SME Moorebank, at the end of work each day, the guys there had a fridge in the workshop with good selection of beers and had a few before leaving. My favourite, Tooheys Old, if not available, its a VB thank you.

I did a DMEO Course at SME (now Steele Barracks) back in Sep-Oct. at S o I's Assault Pioneer Sect.

It just aint the same now, as it was when the Ginger Beers had it all.

I was there in '92, as a member of REME team in the Variety Club Bash. We were hosted by RAEME and there Team at the workshops at SME. As we were to have use of a 6x6 Perentie as support, I had to take an army driving test with one around Sydney!

The accomodation there was excellent and great food, we were looked after very well.

Good one! Check out 'Our GMV' in the Post WW2 sect of this site, as there is a 6 x 6 there, rigged for RAEME Armt use.

Brings back my 1995 horrors of my 'intro to the capital of the world's worst arsehole drivers' which I truly belive Sydney holds even presently (I thought Montreal was bad), as I was used to driving on the Cdn side from age 15 to 35, and on my second day here, ther I was on Paramatta Road at peak traffic (narrow, skinny lanes, and something not seen in Saskatchewan)! Now I too have become one (??), at times anyways. So, along with the snags, the barbies, cold beer, the beach, and the Aussie culture, the aggressive driving too, should be added as an Aussie way of just how things are here.

My CF DND (Cdn) 416 drivers record was recognised by the Army's School of Tpt (RACT), so I did not requrie any courses, but did have to be road tested on each veh type. Infact everything I had done in the CF was recognised except for my SLC (WO's Course). Hence I am still a Sergeant, and happy at this rank for now.
