Serial number locations F-60L

Hello,

I've read through the various threads on serial number locations. I understand that Ford did not always stamp the chassis with the serial number and that it is on the data plate on the door however there is also reference to it being stamped on the gearbox bell housing, please can someone share a photo or give a better description of where it is located there?

Thanks, Chris

Hi Chris
Our F60S LAAT have the number right hand frame, at the rear close spring bracket.

Just above the clutch inspection cover, there is a flat area on the bellhousing.

No serial number on the bell housing however I found this stamped into the side face of the chassis rail, could this be it?

Located on the right hand chassis rail:

F60- Chassis rail marks

Hi Chris,

I think the marking in the chassis rail is actually the part number.

C011Q 5015 B is listed in my F15-A Parts List as Side Rail RH. 5015 would just be the basic part number for a RH side rail. The other numbers and letters would be for a F60 chassis.

Casting numbers on blocks are hard to decipher other than the basic country, year of manufacture, and type such as C69A: C-Canada, 6-1946, 9-95 HP. Usually located on top centre of bellhousing and/or right front deck of the block.

Ford assumed engines would be changed out during the vehicle's lifetime but likely the transmission would stay with the vehicle so they stamped the s/n on the transmission. It seems strange now but early Ford practice. If no s/n is on your transmission perhaps it was a replacement at some time and therefore not factory stamped.

Cheers,
