Caterpillar D4 dozer

I have searched for pics and info and had limited success.

There is reference to serial numbers for WW2 Military D4 in the 7J and 2T series. http://www.chriscomachinery.com/D4serial.htm

We have three items of ex US forces plant, two D4 dozers and an Auto Patrol grader. All have traces of OD under the yellow, and their serial numbers are prefixed 7P which I heard was for '7 Pacific Fleet', but that is unlikely due to the 7J and later serials used postwar.

So does the 'P' denote the Pacific Theatre of Operations? The US Navy were in overall command of the campaign.

The first pic shows the plate on the injector pump of one of the dozers: 7P17125.

The second pic shows the model plate on the grader: 1K104, (is this single rear axle and D4400 engine?) The model plate is on the front frame behind the left front wheel, and on the engine, right side below the donkey engine.

I will clean the other plates and photograph them.

Does anyone have any info on these please? Model no. and year etc?

A lot of ex-US forces plant and vehicles were recovered from the Pacific Islands and brought back to NZ after WW2 by enterprising dealers.

The part number on the pump is probably the part number of the pump. The tractor serial number plates are on the left hand rear side of the engine block and an identical plate on the rear face of the steering/differential housing.
Both should be prefixed 7J or 2T.

Yes Robin, all Cat part numbers are like that
Eg a Cat 1/2 inch ratchet I own, part no. 8H8557.

Have you tried asking at the ACMOC site? They are all things CAT.
