War Amps film on Grey Cup hero killed in WW II wins top awards; will air on CPAC June 6th - 8th

OTTAWA, June 4 /CNW Telbec/ - To mark this year's D-Day anniversary, the
Cable Public Affairs Channel (CPAC) will air a new War Amps documentary that
tells the remarkable story of Jeff Nicklin, a Winnipeg Blue Bombers all-star
who was killed in action during the Second World War.

JEFF NICKLIN: Hero of the Gridiron and the Battlefield (30 minutes) will
air on CPAC at 11:30 p.m. (ET) on Friday, June 6th, at 12:30 p.m. (ET) on
Saturday, June 7th and at 6 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, June 8th.

Produced by War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton, it won Gold at the 2008
Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival, as well as top awards at the
2008 Astrid International Awards in New York and the 2008 U.S. International
Film and Video Awards in Hollywood, California.
The documentary will also air on the Miracle Channel on Friday, June 6th
at 3:30 p.m. (MT) and 11:30 p.m. (MT). The Miracle Channel can be seen in
Alberta, nationally on Rogers Digital Cable (channel 397), Star Choice
(channel 357) and Bell Express Vu (channel 652), and on other community
channels throughout BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan.
It will also air at 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 5th on WNED TV (PBS) in
Buffalo, NY, which can be seen by viewers in the Toronto, St. Catharines,
Welland, Niagara Falls and Hamilton regions.
Part of the Blue Bombers Grey Cup victories in 1935 and '39, Jeff Nicklin
enlisted with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. He transferred to the 1st Canadian
Parachute Battalion, eventually becoming Commanding Officer. One of the first
to land on D-Day, he earned a Mention in Despatches, a military award for
gallantry. He was killed while leading his paratroopers on the drop into the
Rhineland on March 24, 1945.
After the war, the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion Association created
the Jeff Nicklin Memorial Trophy, awarded annually by the Canadian Football
League to the West's most outstanding player. Sixty years later, the
Association, The War Amps and the CFL had the trophy re-dedicated.
Jeff Nicklin: Hero of the Gridiron and the Battlefield, which is part of
The War Amps Military Heritage Documentary Series, contains seldom-seen
football footage of the 1930's and rare wartime images, as well as an
interview with Mr. Chadderton, who talks about his friend Jeff Nicklin.
