Aussie Desert Chev truck

Not 1937, but an example of the Australian "Desert Chev" front bodywork. Lend-Lease vehicle, with US cab and US blackout lights.

Mother's Choice is still in business, one of Australia's oldest retails brands.

MCP 42 Chev on Facebook Market Place Australia

Hello All,

I have no association with the seller. I just saw this on Facebook Market place
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace...type=top_picks

The mudguards (Fenders) have been bikini-ed and it looks like a pivoting/hinged front windscreen. So perhaps the cab has links to the military.

Fortunately it is located too far away from me and I have learnt when to stop buying projects.

Kind regards
Lionel

Been for sale a while: http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ght=mother%27s

Funny thing is, when it was in better condition, it was cheaper!!

It has more patina now.... Have you ever seen VW spilt screen busses for sale. The worse they look, the higher the asking price :rolleyes

Is this ex-mil body?

Caught my eye on the book of faces ... guards appear to be military cut, is the back/body ex mil?

Not sure

hi Dave

Hmm doesn't look military to me but the truck appears to be a wartime Lend-Lease Chev . The little military blackout lights give it away plus the single piece glass door windows. GM-H usually fitted their own stake side cargo body onto these LL trucks .

Many people mistakenly refer to any 1941 to 47 Chev truck as a 'Lend-Lease' Chev. The true Lend-Lease Chev has a Nth. American cab with many detail differences to the GM-H version. The engines can differ too with the LL trucks usually having a 235ci splash motor , many of the GM-H models have the smaller 216ci motor . I had a army 1941 Chev with the GM-H cab and Aust. army nomenclature stenciled on the firewall , it had the 216 motor fitted which I am almost 100% sure was original to the truck.
