T16 Charging regulator issue
 

Those familiar with the Dynamo Control Box on the T16 will know that it is a strange thing! Well its very like a standard Jeep style box, but it fits into a retaining unit and is clipped in . The three principal contacts are made by conductive sprung copper I think. My regulator has given up doing its job and I was looking for a solution to replacing the inner workings with perhaps an electronic unit. Has anyone done this and if so how, or maybe someone has a NOS regulator just waiting for me to buy off them! Either way, I would be interested in any comments and experience with fitting new electronic units.

To clarify your question, are you running 6V or 12V?

I see that http://www.electrodynamicsolutions.com/ have taken over the (DVR3-4) car side of the business from "Dynamo Regulators" Who's DVR2 type for motorcycles I've used for many years and the only type that I will recommend.

It's probable that you can hide one somewhere or inside your original regulator without gutting it. Ron

thanks Guys for the replies. I am running the standard 12 volt T16 negative earth system. I had thought of fitting one of the old British Lucas regulators within the box that is originally there. I have fitted an electronic distributor to the T16, a marvellous thing, but it needs a good strong battery. I have run the Carrier for the last couple of outings just on the battery charge prior to use. Time to get it charging again. So two or three options, there, thanks Ron and Hanno for the leads on electronic regulators which I will look into.

Check the half-track sites since its a 12-volt 50-amp regulator. Should be a digital card option but they sometimes buzz or click due to switching and it might be annoying since its near your face in the T-16. They should also have options for a normal regulator to meet the same specs.
