C60L with double cab conversion

Remco Rommens of the Netherlands has an interesting Chevrolet C60L for sale. While doing a nut and bolt restoration he converted it with a double cab so he could take his family to enjoy the hobby too. Now time has come to move on and a good home is sought for his truck:

Roughly ten years ago rebuild from ground up:

The truck was taken apart to the last bolt and nut and everything was sand blasted and painted before rebuilding it with great care. New oil seals installed everywhere, bearings where needed. All electrical components were replaced and the truck now runs on a 12 volt system. The engine was rebuilt (216 qi engine as belongs in truck), new Michelin tires were installed, as were new brake linings and cylinders last year.

Converted to double cab to be able to enjoy the hobby with my children.

In the cargo compartment there are two fixed cabinets with drawers and two benches which give a lot of storage space. The benches can be converted in a bed where we normal sleep with two adults and one child. There is a fourth, small bed above the large bed for a second child which can be rolled away.

Truck drives wonderful and we did have a lot of fun with it over the years.

Reason for selling is me switching over to Jeep.

Price: 8,000.- Euro

Please contact Remco Rommens via email.

BTT...

Remco will take his C60L to the annual Keep Them Rolling event in the Eastern part of the Netherlands, 7-10 September (see http://www.twente-achterhoekweekend.nl/ for details).

Here is a picture of his C60L recovering a GMC at the same event in 2015 (source)

CHEVROLET C60L built in 1944 with double cabin. This cabin is not original but very functional. Behind the front seats is a sofa and you can sit well with five adults in the cabin. There is plenty of cupboard space and two benches that can be built into a spacious double bed. We slept well with two adults and two children in the car.
Car is technically good and completely restored in 2009. Everything on the car has been separated from the last bolt and nut and repaired / replaced where necessary.
Fully blasted and again well-painted.
Engine is an original 216qi which belongs in this car. The engine has been overhauled and is now equipped with hardened valve seats.
In the entire car where necessary, the bearings are replaced and all oil times rings.
The radiator is equipped with a new inside work.
Brake servo remanufactured and currently not mounted.
A year and a half ago the brake drums were turned out and the brake shoes were fitted with new liners. Also the wheel brake cylinders were replaced.
The car is equipped with a 12 volt alternating current alternator and the rest of the electrical installation is also 12 volts. Halogen H4 headlights.
Car weighs about 3800kg so you need a truck driver's license.
The car comes with:
-Jute camouflage just over the bucket.
-Custom-made cushions for the couch / bed.
-Extra revised carburetor.
-2 spare lamp units as donated to the rear side.
-Extra coupling plate.
-Full set of universal joints for the drive shafts.
-3 times usable petrol can as on photo.
-Set extra heavier for springs.
-Extra gearbox (has been full of water)
-All other spare parts that I still have.
All in all a very nice (I think) technically good and great driving car.

Video

Here's a short clip of this truck from a video I made a while back. This is at the same time / place as the above photo.

Just out of interest.....is the front section of the cargo body still present, in case any potential buyer would want to convert the truck back to stock?

Sad to see that the truck hasn't found a new home yet.

I don't know if Remco is a member here(?), but it could help to know if the crew cab conversion can be easily converted back to stock. Maybe that can convince any potential buyer to step forward.

Remco has an account. The cab conversion is well executed, best way to go would be to fit another cab I guess?

The body was shortened also because it was rusty. As it is simple in construction it should be possible to put a section back in.

Sold

I am happy to report that this C60L was sold to Henrik Guldmann in Denmark through my intervention. Somehow I felt Remco needed help to find a new home for his quirky CMP, if only because of the amount of work which he put into it (which otherwise could have gone to waste).

What better than a new owner who wanted to convert a C60L with a double cab as well. Henrik's CMP can now be saved from modification to be restored sometime later.

Wonder if?

Hi Hanno

Good news about the new home. Wonder if they could put a long recording GoPro in the cab while it makes the trip Denmark?

Cheers Phil
