Thompson SMG perhaps?
 

Hi Guys

I recently discovered this picture on another website - it supposedly shows a knocked out Soviet Churchill but what I find interesting, is that the German soldier in front is carrying a Thompson SMG - comments please!

Probably a 1928A1 Savage
 

It is a mid-war 1921 or 1928A1, with horizontal foregrip. This would be absolutely typical of the large quantity of ex-Soviet guns that were sold off recently, unfired and de-activated, having been in storage since the war.

Early Colt production stayed in the US or came to the UK, the real quantity production of these was by Savage Arms. They are pretty much the same as the ordinary US or UK guns, but don't have Ordnance accept stamps or the like as all the US army ones do. The ones I've seen just have a serial number (with S for Savage Arms in front of it) stamped on.

It is most likely it was captured in the same action as the tank, with the .45 ACP round not really suiting anything the Axis used.
