Work progress on my Pattern 12, two new questions what goes between the fender and the sidehood? Fender welt or is it just and open space? See photo
Next what does the side enginge cover for the generator look like?
Also are there under engine panels like on those on a Pattern 12?

Phil, I think what goes between the fender and the cowl is a black, vinyl impregnate, piping. Imagine folding the material in a u and stitching it to form a rounded 'bubble' about 3/16" diameter on one side. In other places, there was a 1" web 'anti-squeak' strip between parts. Depending on how urgent, I can get samples of both off my wreck.

For your other question, is that part of the engine cover?

Hi Phil, hope this picture helps, the bottom part of the cover sits on the chassis rail, between the rail and cover is a rubber strip to keep the water at bay. cheers David...

Fender -hood
 
There is nothing in between the fender and the hood . I have never seen any remains there of something , and there is nothing mentioned in the parts list , the bits wich have contact with each other , have anti squeak things in between , like between the bonnet , and the nose pieces , and between cab floor and cab frame .

Thanks David - I can fabricate a panel from your picture.

As to the gap between fender and side hood, on my truck this is about a 1/2 gap figured that it was large fender welt as Bruce suggests. Don't really need a sample just take a look and discribe. There was a large vine growing up through the space when I got the truck.

I agree with Maurice,

I have never found a welt on a 12 cab engine/wing panel, here in the UK there is about a 3/8" gap, the welt is between the rear of the engine cover and the arch bar and the front of the engine cover and the ventilator box

Geez..... my 'puter crashes and I lost all my assorted password including the MLU...... All these messages I could read but not reply......

Any ways........ Phil as indicated there are no fender welts on the fender/cowl side panel.......

I will attach some pictures of the disassembly of my cab 11..... BUT... caution.... I am not sure what I took apart was original but it did look pretty darn old.......

It seems that you are looking for patterns for some inside wheel well sheet metal.....???? mine are fairly complete and can measure/ photo/ cut some cardboard pattern if you are interested.

Now for the photos..... Probably one at a time..... will send a complete file to Phil separately...

As you can see from the above post.... the welt.... canvass tape with some tar impregnated..... is only on the vertical side near the cab door side.... the bottom is just rolled.... leaves about a 3/8 gap.....

See the next picture..... you can see the back of the inside cab panel.... and the area where dirt could accumulate and caused rust holes....... the cowl side piece should not be touching the fender.

See the heavy welting..... rubber type held in place with tiny brass rivets....... on both the rad shell and near the base of the windshield.

I ahve saved a few samll pieces of the canvas and rubber welting for later guide to new repro material.

If you need particular close up let me know..... will send you a larger file to your PM with higher resolution in case you need to enlarge.....

Bob - The CD loaded with photos you gave me last summer at Weare have been a great help already. I've got your pictures and all the photos I took disassembling the truck on a computer out in the shop which has been a great help. As I get in to the formal reassembly they are going to very useful in figuring out where 3 tons of parts go.

I've been replacing rusted areas on the Patter 12 steadily now wait until you see the sheet metal pages for my website which I've got to up load. Also have been straighting the cab out as I go turns out the truck must have rolled up on the drivers side at some point in its life. That massive angle iron frame the cab frame had been pushed in at one point 2 1/2inches.

Have you repaired the typical rust through on the bottom of the engine cover?????

......are you or did you cut new panels or butt weld new material to the old dog house cover????

Can't remember on which site or catalogue but I have seen repro of the woven material used for antisqueak...... are you going to replace yours with repro.... or use a non water absorbing rubber tape or what?????

Did you get your engine back yet????

So many questions so little time......

Copied your approach on modifying an engine stand to old the gear cluster...... heavy those suckers!!!!
