Mystery Lifting frame identity sought

Recently this landed in my hands.

It came about 8 years ago from out west (the promised land), Alberta to be precise.

It was in a mixed treasure trove of MV related parts that were mostly (99.9%) British MOD stuff. There have been a couple of notable exceptions.

It has been suggested that because of the wire rope terminations it might be Canadian.

A pair of slip joint pliers are in the photo for scale.

My initial thought was that it looked like a locally produced Ferret power pack lifting frame.

There are no markings what so ever on it at all.

Looks well made with a purpose in mind.

The M113 sling is similar but not the same.

It has been suggested that it may be for a Walker Bulldog pack.

I'm asking for anyone with one such device for some measurements if they have any.

Thanks

Are you going to lash a live seal to it Bob?

Robin Craig 12-10-13 17:14

Gentlemen,

You are in your own unique ways dragging this thread to the depths of silliness like only you two can!

I expect nothing less from you both.

Sorry Robin. This is just what we do, when we don't have a bloody clue. :D
You wouldn't want us to mislead you.

Robin Craig 13-10-13 11:45

Lynn,

I'm just yanking your chain and that of Bob whom I know somewhat!

No offence taken.

Certainly looks very much like the Walker Bulldog sling that I have in my collection.....not sure about dimensions without digging it out to measure...B.P.

elimination

Does that eliminate it from the fishing lure category?
Even if two Ferret sand channels were attached?

Robin Craig 22-10-13 00:46

Dear Michael,

It is still available for the fishing lure category.

Is your friend still selling his ferret without the sand channels, I have a pair . . . . .

To update this thread it would appear that the reference to the M113 was not far wrong as it appears that this frame is for the M110 and M578 vehicles, as borne witness by the attached.

You will notice that the T shape is formed in two different planes which is exactly as in the image.

It looks the same as I got with a m41 engine pack and have used it a few times to remove and install the engine and transmission unit works fine.
It is different to the lifting frame showed in the m41 manual and is described as sling 41-S-3832-22 in the picture the hooks are on chains and the tee head is bolted not suspended

That lifting sling looks a lot like the one we used here at 202 Workshop Depot for lifting out M109 power packs. Will look around to see if I have a picture of it in use.

Well, I did some searching and found a picture of the M109 power pack lifting sling. The 109 sling has 4 attachment points, 2 on the engine and 2 on the transmission. Since your sling has 3 points, it could be for the M113 A1 and A2 power pack, but not for the A3, which also has 4 lifting points.

Looks like I was wrong. Your sling has 3 lifting points like the one for the M113A1 and A2 but it is not the same. I dug out a picture for the 113 and it definitely not the same. Me bad.
