white half-track

Hi,
Is it possible to know the difference between a White half-track and an M3 ??? I have little knowlege on these half-track and i want to model one in 1/35 scale in use with the canadian army in ww2 but i read everywhere that canada use White half-track.I can only find the M3 version on the market (tamiya).Or maybe someone has something about the conversion to a White h-t ??
thanks a lot..

White or M3

The M3 was the White-built half-track, the M5 was a very similar vehicle built by International Harvester; the only difference I believe being the shape of mudguards and a few small details . Just go ahead and use the Tamiya kit, but check photos of the individual vehicle for exact layout as they were modified according to the purpose that they were to be used for.

Apart from the odd White M3 (or are you referring to the White M3A1 Scout Car?) which found its way into Canuck hands, all half-tracks in use by the Commonwealth armies were International M5 / M9 /M14 ones. Main visual differences were flat front fenders and rounded rear armour corners.

Luc,

If I was doing an M3 kit I'd build the SAR ACV Halftrack. This is one of those odd White half tracks in Canadian use - and a unique conversion too! Read more about it in the Old MLU Forum thread "Swatty's ACV".

Cheers,
Hanno
