Ron Pier 09-01-10 07:52

Yes Mike that is Definitely Rory's CS8. I even recognize it being parked outside his house. What I'm not sure of though is, This bloke says he has the only two wireless bodies? I helped Rory (with others) with the unloading of the two he bought. These must surely be the same two? And yet Rory is restoring one and sold one. I feel a phone call coming on later today. I'll let you know. Ron

Ron Pier 09-01-10 10:50

OK I just spoke to Rory. He did in fact sell both bodies to that chap Bob. Rory is content to refurbish the remains of the prototype body he already had, after purloining some vital bracketry from the other two before they went. Ron

alleramilitaria 09-01-10 14:36

yes but we have all seen this befor (and i am not bashing anyone, its happened to me) where there are only 2 of this item left in the entire world. that is till someone sees it on mil web or ebay and...... hey i have 8 of them in the back yard.... etc :thup2:

Ron Pier 09-01-10 16:10

Yes I totaly agree Dave but....For twenty years now I have claimed to own one of only two Morris PU8/4's in the world. I'd love to be proved wrong. It would be great to talk to another owner  Ron

"Sorry, the GeoCities web site you were trying to reach is no longer available."

Mike, my Geocities pages also went walking. Probably no longer fits the market strategy of whatever company owns the domain now. When you find a good alternate free provider, let me know.

On the subject of radio shacks, gin palaces or whatever they are called. Jaap de Wit has a MCC body on his C15:

I remember it as I got the ad from Richard N., sent it on to an interested party, and the rest is history as they say.

Commonwealth made or used by

Interesting site and when I hit it from the US it worked.

Now as to coverage in MLU clarification is needed, are MVs used by Commonwealth Forces, or built in covered under the umbrella?

What about Universal carriers used my the US Marines- the other direction of US Lead Lease logical for the Carrier Forum.

Just kidding around

Cheers Phil

alleramilitaria 12-01-10 03:32

i dont think the 1 carrier the USMC browered counts as the marines useing it.

must be listed in the TO&E to count

Hallo Jaap,

Yes, the first picture is the actual ad for your truck's body which triggered Dirk, and the second picture is the body shortly after it arrived at Dirk's.

There is at least one more of these bodies in Holland, albeit an early warning body on a "proper" Morris-Commercial C4:

To be truthful Mike I accually like the uniqueness of the typical WW2 and pre war English built military trucks whether they be Morris, Leyland or Fordson or any of the other makes. They are a reminder of just how 'behind the times' the English automobile industry really was plus judging by a lot of the post war vehicles they produced they also did not learn anything at all during the war about vehicle design either. :)

Morris C8 GS in Korea

Just my luck, spent 14 years looking for photos of a 1944 Morris C8 GS in Army use [think i found about 3] :bang: then as soon as i sold the Morris, these came up for sale, so had to buy them [20 photos in all inc some Bedfords]. British Army in Korea in 1951. REME unit. in the last photo there are Bedfords Morris & a Humber box. Original Photos from my collection.

Mike Kelly 11-02-11 03:15

production

Reading the MCC production chart from Adderley Park: they were still making the 4X2 C4 models right into 1944/45 , but only in small numbers , less than 200 . Also listed are three Terrapins.

I think the tillies were made at Cowley, at another branch of NUFFIELD ??

MIKE
