OMVA Swap Meet & AGM March 12th 2016

Hello to all OMVA members. I hope you all had a safe and Happy New Year.
As previously posted we are having are Annual General Meeting and swap meet on the 12 of March 2016. The location is 15 Wright Ave, Acton, Ontario. That is the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197. The doors will be open to the public at 8:00 am. All the swap meets seem to well attended as this is a great opportunity for us to meet each other and perhaps new members. You will perhaps find the one hard to find part that were seeking!

Please be ready to start the AGM between 11:00 and 12:00. The meeting should take about 30 minutes. I will be posting a full agenda along with a notice to update the constitution. This is the first AGM in a while I we have some important duties to take care of and I hope all attend.

Remember the folks from Kingston and points east!

Les
Could I ask why everything for the swap meet has to be closed up so early in the day - presumably 11:00am? There are OMVA members, quite a lot of them, who live in Kingston and points east. To get to Acton by 8:00am even in good driving weather is a bit of a challenge. Why not have it going on 'til say 2:00 pm then the AGM? That would give us non-greater TO guys a chance to participate. I have quite a lot of bits I could bring.

OMVA seems to follow Queen's Park - if you live out over the eastern horizon, you can s#d off as my Brit friends would say! Just joking!

I have asked previous administrations about this and never got a reply.

Oh David.....

.....what about us guys from Ottawa.... we have to leave the week before in case of storms.......

I beleive the next Fall meeting is at the Big Apple near Barry's residence.....

See you on the 401.....

Cheers

The message says the meeting will start between 11:00 and 12:00 not 11:00. We can start the meeting anytime the majority wants. My thought was if we wait until say 1:00, many may not stay. The club is to serve all of us, so if we want to start later then it will! In so far as travel distance I have no issue with driving to the U.S. to a rally or swap meet. I do understand that I may not be norm. So if the club would like to have a swap meet or rally in a different area of Ontario then, as long as someone wants to run it I am sure the other executive members would behind it. We would need to approve the date and location. I do think Barry's place would be a great place to hold a swap meet ! Lol.

As It turns out the hall is rented until 12:00 noon. It has always been rented until 12:00 noon. So the AGM will start shortly after 11:00. Sorry for any confusion this may cause, but we need to have an AGM to allow the executive to move forward on our behalf.
Thanks.

Just a thought, since the Hall is rented only until Noon, could the AGM not take place in the Lounge at the Legion? I am sure the bar there would be more than happy to have a few extra Customers...

chris vickery 09-02-16 19:46

Further to this post, are vendors expected to:
1) pack up prior to the AGM? or
2) pack up after the AGM?
Is the meeting to be held in the same hall where the swap meet is being conducted or elsewhere, eg meeting room at the Legion?
If packing up after the meeting is the option and/or leaving the hall unattended, will security be provided for all the tables that are left unattended during the meeting?

Hi Stuart

There is no confusing part. We must have an AGM as it is required as per our bylaws and to confirm the new executive. The meeting will start between 11:00 and 12:00 as the hall is only rented as per usual until 12:00. If we have the meeting at another time and date, few would show up. As in other years, there is a mass exodus before 12:00 anyway.

You are correct, Peter is the point of contact for the event. He can be reached by PM through this forum.

I hope this helps. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sat. March 12.

Barry

Barry,
You are correct. Perhaps the timing and venue may be off for many members of OMVA, but all are entitled to vote on the executive and express their wishes and motion for which direction they consider OMVA should proceed, for the benefit of all members.

AGM, March 12th.

Looks as though there is a lot to get done in the 30 minute meeting but wondering if some discussion about Aquino Tank Day should be included. The invitation for OMVA members to attend with vehicles is a great opportunity to participate in a very unique and well organized event that would be a rewarding experience for all. For those OMVA members who plan on being there with or without vehicles, perhaps an organized or more visible presence should be considered.
Cheers, Terry.

Greetings guys. I am planning on vending at the OMVA swap as per my usual.
Bringing with me a bunch of heavier, bulky items that I normally leave at home.
Please see my post under the For sale section for details and PM ahead of time for wants if interested.
Thanks Chris

Facebook page

Hi Les,

This morning at the meeting Mary-Lou Vanrooy brought up the question on opening an OMVA page on Facebook. At that time you said we do not have a page. I see someone has taken the liberty to make one and is using the organizations crest and name as its open to public Facebook page and appears to have 10 members? Someone is keeping a secret....

Here is a thread on this very site discussing it:

There must be some kind of conspiracy going on...
No secrets here, I created a FB page for anyone to use when I was but interim President. It is there to use, go to it.
As far as I know it is open for use for whomever wants to run with it. Sorry I am not a tech savvy Facebook user and must have been occupied when it was brought up today. It was introduced but never used and I think the name or domain is there for use still.

Sorry guys... :giveup I just figured that as an association, things like this would be common knowledge at membership meeting... at least by some members if not the governing body. I've always gone by the rule that if the topic is said to be not true at a formal group function such as our meeting... then it isn't.

I was just bringing it to Les's attention... and the "secret" comment was dry humour.

I truly think the Facebook page would be, and since it does exists.. is a fantastic way for us to connect. No ill intentions was meant by my post.

Successful OMVA swap meet

This recent event was a great success: excellent attendance and lots of swap meet goodies. It was an action-packed 8am to noon event. There were numerous familiar faces who I unfortunately didn't have time to hello to since there was so much going on. Congratulations to the new OMVA executives for promoting these events and for their recognition of past volunteers... Brian
