C8A fire truck

Nice spotto, Rick! I lost track of that one after it came up for sale in 2010 - see http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...954#post136954. Around the same time there was one for sale in Holland, too: http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...959#post136959
It is one of a series of C8A HUP chassis converted into fire trucks, see a few more complete and/or restored survivors here. This one deserves to be restored as such, but as there are some (more) complete survivors, this one will most likely be reduced to a source of spares for the military versions. Nice to see the coachbuilder's plate preserved: Attachment 133428 Here's a photo of a preserved one: Attachment 133427 Source: https://www.fijnuit.nl/1504/brandwee...foto/6276#foto |

That thing is so ugly it is beautiful. I would restore it mechanically but leave it looking like that.
But I suppose the ugly/beautiful; thing can be applied to most of our CMPs. To the outside viewer, they are ungainly, but like the parents of a baby who is perhaps not going to be on the cover of "Beutiful babies", we see perfection. |
This C8A was used as a carnival parade vehicle, hence the gaudy colours. It would make a nice surf truck or similar.
A Dutch MLU member is bidding on this so I reckon it will at least get saved from the scrapper. |
