Found this magasine box in my barn yesterday .It very well looks like a 9mm High Power magasine box . They were made by / for Inglis in Toronto for the Chinese Aid Contract .Anyone here can read Cantonese ?

Would it be for the straight 8mm Bren magazines? I have one downstairs that looks very similar.
Photo below (which I stole off the net) shows the regular bren chest, the chinese script 8mm chest, and the chest for the 8mm chest for the 8mm Bren mk1 (referred to as "sterile " guns). I think someone has moved your handle from the end to the lid.

Mystery solved

Rob , you are probably right, again. Straight Bren magazines . A new one on me . 20 or 30 rounds ? Many thanks for taking the time . Cheers. Bob

Rob,

the Brens in Uk service were converted to 7.62.

Is the marking on your box a typo at 7.92?

Mike Cecil 20-04-19 03:36

No, not a typo. The Chinese contract BREN guns were manufactured to fire 7.92 x 57, commonly known as 8mm Mauser.

Only ever seen one 7.92mm BREN, in a museum in Tasmania, locked in their armoury. They didn't have a clue about its significance, as it was part of a job-lot from a collector. Magazine was 30 rounds.

When converted to 7.62 (NATO), the designation became L4A1 (etc - there were a couple in the series). Most were converted from Mk3 BREN guns.

I have both (in deactivated form): The Chinese marked and the other is the mk1 version, which is a mk2 bren in t.92. I have one of the 8mm chests, but would have to check if it is the Chinese marked one or the English marked one.

Sterile BRENs

There is a recent Forgotten Weapons episode on the family. It answers your straight magazine question definitively.
