Dental lorries
Let's start a thread on dental lorries and related vehicles. Here is my first - a Rolls Royce altered into a "Mobile Dental Clinic" and funded through the "Lord Mayor of Plymouth's Fund".
Although in a camouflage finish the car carries civilian registration plates and there is no indication that it was used by the military - however..... Clive http://www.servicepub.com/images/dsc00629.jpg http://www.servicepub.com/images/dsc00630.jpg |
Military use
Clive,
There is a blackout headlight on the vehicle.Did the civilian vehicles use these in air raid situations or for military use? Look at the scrape marks on the floor in front of the chair, there must have been alot of kicking and probably screaming going on in there at one point. Those hobnails sure can do alot of damage! Gee you guys, do you REALLY have to talk about dentists here?

The RAF seemed to use WOT1 trucks for dental surgeries. Here's a photo from the IWM (2 TAF in Normandy). I have seen one or two others buy can't find them right now, also there was an article in "Britain at War" magazine which I may be able to find later.

The first being a mobile dental surgery the second being a mobile dental laboratory. They were originallly on fordson WOT1 chassis and had very similar bodywork, later the WOT1/1a chassis was used and both the surgery and lab were of increased height. An example of a restored WOT1/1a surgery is on display at the RAF Museum Cosford. |

austin k2y
hi, the austin k2y ambulance my brother is trying to restore has a power take off fitted made from the old compressor assy. this was done in the desert as its painted over in desert sand,or maybe at the factory, the air receiver has an extra tapping in it, so maybe a larger compressor was fitted? not a dental van? the drive is a one inch square shaft, the hand brake mounting may of being changed to give clearance ,reg
