British 10cwt airborne trailer spares
I'm looking for parts to complete a 10cwt British Airborne Trailer restoration.
Mainly; Electrical parts, side marker lights, convoy light, trailer to jeep plug, junction box etc Front hitch (prefer later larger eye) Rear T plate Copies or supplier of canvas tie down hooks Stabilizer legs front and rear Anything of use or interest. Would even take other restoration project or parts. What Have You? I'm UK based, I can collect or organise own courier. I'm also looking at reproducing some parts for these such as axles (maybe even a hub conversion from imperial to metric) Complete solid tubs, correct panels and seam welded with all brackets underneath for cables and lights etc Repro T plates if a good pattern is found I think there is also a market for the hitch too, need to get a good original to copy. Any help or pointers greatly appreciated as usual :salute: |
Hi Paul
I may be able to help with some bits. I'm pretty sure I have a box of canvas tie down hooks taken from another trailer wreck. Also have at least one stabilizer leg but I think it might need straightening. I will get up in the garage loft and take a couple of photos. All the best Rob |
Trailer parts
Hi Rob
Any joy on the trailer parts mate?? Paul |
Hi Paul
Ok - I have found them which is a good start !! I have 11 canvas tie downs, 2 corner hooks and 2 Stabiliser legs (one will need a bit of heating and straightening. I would add a couple of photos but I am struggling to load them due to entirely to mu own technology deficiencies ! If you PM me an e mail address I will send them direct Cheers Rob |
I had a batch of tie down hooks made by my local blacksmith for my 10cwt GS trailer rebuild so if all other options don't come up with sufficient hooks, all is not lost. They can still be made by hand (probably the original method anyway) if you find the right smith.
John Corden put me onto ready cut steel discs from eBay which were used to make new support legs, so again there is always a way. |
Thanks Simon. My hooks have the tang cut off but the flat bases still there, so I could weld new hooks onto flats and clean up.
Which discs you mean? The foot ?? |
I think that....
If the hooks have straight top edges, the hooks are made by forge welding rod for the hook and flat strip for the base. If the hooks have an angled top edge then the hooks are made from a single piece of strip worked into shape. Yes- discs for the feet of the support legs |
None of my books exist, just the flat plate spot welded to the body.
Yes a source for any part is always welcome, regardless how minor a part it is. Cheers |
Parts
Pretty sure I have a pair of springs? plus a box of small bits somewhere?
