replacement mics and earphones WS19

Hey guys, what are folk using as replacements for WS 19 headsets. I have some really tidy sets that I want to use, but some of the ear pieces and some of the mic's are caput.

Cheers
Richie

Before you write them off completely, Richard, take the elements out and give them a sharp whack or two on a countertop, reinstall them and see what happens. Often it is just a case of the internal fiddly bits sticking together after a long period of inactivity.

Thanks David, I will give that a try :)

hi

You can buy modern electrec mic inserts at any electronics store , these run from a small voltage and they will perform much better than the crappy old ones .

A friend of mine did use the modern inserts in his old valve transmitters. From memory the original carbon type microphone inserts ( mic No. 3 ? ) require around 3 Volts , these carbon insert style of microphones lend themselves towards a easier conversion to the modern electret inserts because the supply voltage is already there.

Some experts will probably correct me , but the old original moving coil inserts ( 19, 22 set ) were voice powered ,they were always a source of poor modulation, after 50 odd years they would often fail or at best be working at only 50%.

You may have to do a little searching for the 19 set wiring .
