Sydney Valpy Radley-Walters Biography

While I was browsing around I found out that there is a biography about the Allies greatest tank ace Maj. Sydney Valpy Radley-Walters. It was written as a Masters thesis at the University of New Brunswick by Lawrence James Zaporzan in 2001. It says on its listing at the UNB Library that it is for in library use only. That is too bad I would love to get a chance to read it. Even better if someone could publish it in book form. Oh well one can only hope.

You can find it by entering “Radley-Walters” and pressing “search everything”. It is Thesis #6588.

Interesting is it available via Inter library loan>?

The National Library of Canada shows that the only copy is located at UNB, but as luck would have it, it is available via Inter Library Loan.

Inter library loan

I will have to see if my daugther can get it through an inter library loan from McGill. However, she is out of the country with her mother at this time. They are due back only next month.

Hi John

Thanks for the heads up on the thesis, following the thread I requested the Sydney Valpy Radley- Walters bio and am reading it via mircofiche at my local library. It cost 8 dollars to get it via ILL to my branch and believe it was microfiched for the ILL request and I hope my timing worked out so as not to interfere with your request. Today I read about 80 pages, 1/3 of the way through quite interesting stuff .
Michael

Hello Michael,

I have not yet made a request to get a copy of the thesis. The local public library dose not made inter-library loans, so I will have to ask my daughter to request it through the University library. While she has returned from her overseas trip, she is now on summer break and is working two jobs to pay for her upcoming school year, so dose not have much time to go to the library.

Also if the thesis comes as a microfiche, how can she copy it so that I can read it?

Michael, can you make a summary of the main points and post them here or e-mail them to me?

Thanks,

John

Hi John

Certainly I will post a review of the thesis and items covered and I hope to have the mircofiche finished this week. It does mention "Woppy"discussing the Wittmann debate. Not sure if the typed format is available via ILL, the only way I can read is at my branch on their reader.

Hello John;

Did you notice this line in the first paragraph "Canadian Army Special Force in 1940"......

The Canadian Army Special Force was that which was raised for Korea, the line should read "Canadian Active Service Force", which effective 7 November 1940 was redesignated The Canadian Army (Active) - under authority of GO 273/40 - Dated: 29 Nov 40 - Effective: 7 Nov 40

Just thought I'd pass this along.

Cheers :)

If you are affiliated with a university, you can download the pdf file through your university for free.

Cheers,

Chris
