Which bearing?

Hi in a real bind ATM,

I need to know if a BOWER Bearing P/N BT-53176 is the same as a TIMKEN 399A which is a C11Q-1216 in the Ford CMP book. Sorry its not my profession. I am an Amps, Volts and Ohms person.
Heeeeeeelllllllp :giveup

Cheers,

Ian

Hello Ian,

Google is your friend:

Checking the basic dimensions, you will find these are not the same. As the bearing number (somehow) denotes the type and dimensions, many manufacturers use the same bearing number - those that adhere to the I.B.I., International Bearing Interchange guide, anyway. So the numbers without the letter prefixes are your starting point.

Did some more googling, found this hit for Timken 399A with cross references to other manufacturers: https://www.sp-spareparts.com/en/p/399-a-timken?_q=399A, including Ford C11Q1216 indeed.

Any good bearing supplier should be able to sort you out?

HTH a bit,
Hanno

Thanks Hanno,

Just determining that the two are different as I am 1300km from one bearing (and connected axle) it appears I am no closer to determining which non OEM bearing fits which Ford Axle. Ahh well...
Cheers,
Ian.

Timken 399A bearings

Hi Ian,

As Hanno says any good bearing supplier should be able to get you the correct bearing even if it is from another manufacturer.

Checked my records and I bought a genuine Timken 399A bearing from a local Bearing supplier, South Coast Bearings, in Seaford Vic. It was Dec 1998 however but I would be surprised if they, or their equivalent, were not still available at your local bearing supplier. It was new stock at the time.

Kept the box as a souvenir!

Cheers,

Well Ian, other than preventing you from buying a bearing which is about half the size you need, I also provided you with a whole list of manufacturers which your Ford bearing cross references to. To make it easy for you, click on https://www.sp-spareparts.com/en/p/399-a-timken?_q=399A and then get on the phone to buy any of those bearings listed.

Cheers,
Hanno
