Thought I would never see this again. A promo movie for the Australian Army done about 1975. No talking just the full version of the 1812 Overture.

I did the Pilatus Porter flying in it. Seems a million years ago.

Thanks for posting this Lang.
What a magnificent production. It makes you want to rush out and join up.
I especially liked all the old gear, ACCOs, SLRs, Centurions etc.

They even kept several Cents running long enough to make the film! Amazing!

Thanks, Lang.

Nice flying, by the way!

I sent it to my best mate who was CO of 1 RAR and he said again what the infantry said when the doco came out - where are they?

I told him back in 1976 this is a recruiting movie and only mental defectives would sign up for 3 years to walk around carrying their house on their back and live in the ground like meerkats. Aeroplanes. tanks, guns, boats and good looking girls at parties really sucks them in.

Once they finish recruit training most of them will be allocated to infantry to carry their house on their back and live in the ground like meerkats.

Hey, I was one of those who enlisted after seeing this film in 1978 at a recruiting office in Dandenong Victoria; 17 years old and full of beans. I certainly did not carry my house on my back and was glad to carry my house in the back of an inter F-1 towing an M2A2 and was lucky to have Served 24 years in the RAA, enjoyed every moment of my service.

The sad part is that I actually remember Oakey when it was still like that. Also, during the segment of the Apprentices School, one of my old instructors is featured.
The Youtube link had ladies in the lines too. I was actually at Kapooka in "88 when this was filmed. I was at the range with them & also at the Q store when the had their initial issues.
Here's where I say that a few years later, I was the Platoon SGT of 31 Pl for a while..............

Ian,

Good memories of 31 Platoon? ..... or not?

In looking at the video, I noted that not one of the pieces of equipment I recognized is still in service. But some of the diggers are, eh Ian?

Love the efficiency of the engineer's hand signals on the raft! I think I initially shocked a certain AFV owner/driver at W&P last year (2012) when he asked me to ground guide. I dredged the memory and gave him a set of the correct signals as per my Leopard drivers course. He looked visibly taken-aback, not expecting that from a civvie. After that, I had a job (and a ride!) for the rest of the time there.
