Hi, What ever it is, it is serious. I don't know about the M37 specifically, but there is a big bolt in the side of the earlier diffs. That bolt supports a bronze thrust pad against the back of the ring gear (crown wheel)This is what it looks like to me. To be in this state something is not good.
If it is not that, then it will be a a thrust washer from the side or spider gears. These are usually steel, with a bronze wear face on them, and so is unlikely. There shouldn't be any other bronze type material anywhere else in the whole thing. Having the bronze in there is the reason why you cannot use E.P. oils in the diff. (it attacks the bronze)

I would say it is the thrust washer for the axle side gear as I installed one of the LOCK RITE lockers in mine and it had brass thrust washers behind the side gears that the axle goes into. I replaced mine with steel ones from Vintage Powerwagons as I heard there were problems when installing the lockers as there is extra strain on the thrust washers with the kit installed.

I finally disassemble the carrier and it's a spider gear thrust washer. Were could y get those thrust washer.

you could try that place Rob Love is always reffering others to Rock Auto parts
the link is here http://rockauto.com/ they may be able to find or even have the part for the civilian equivalent...? Or even try a 4X4 parts place as the axles are used in the rock climbers etc? Good luck...hope this will help you out!

You may also want to look at:

I think they list your thrust washers for $5 each.
They specialize in military Dodges and run a separate listing for Canadian M-37s to allow for the differences from the US version.

Good i think i will check around to see if there is a matching part some were, if not i will take it from vintage power wagon.
