In a different thread I noticed some photos of White Scout Cars with hinged rear plates.

Three hinges are visible but I cannot work out whether the top plate drops down ot the bottom plate lifts up. The rear tail light limits travel for both.

The early lots 1 and 2 (and maybe more),had two piece rear plates but they were not hinged.

Why are the rear plates hinged?

Thanks Rick.

I’d say the plate was made hinged so it could be used as an ambulance:

Hi All
There is a difference between early and late M3A1 scout cars the early ones had a 2 piece back plate by mid production this was changed to a one piece plate. The hinge is a British mod along where the floor joins the rear plate.
