Ladybird Johnson Australian Trip 1942

Interesting background vehicles throughout. Starts in Brisbane then proceeds north. 1942 Lyndon Johnson was a Senator sent to look at among other things the cause of the US Army black units "mutiny" in North Queensland. Even with a VIP crew in the B-17 they got lost and had to land at a cattle station hundreds of miles off course. I think the future President should have asked for a new navigator for his aircraft.

Spotted the Aust. pattern Ford 12 cwt van in Lyndon's home movies .

Ian Styles same model van at Corowa.

The LBJ lost B-17 reminds me of a ham radio friend , he was a RAAF Warrant Officer , he told me he was posted up North and he was to fly up in a B-17 . He said he refused to fly with the yanks because they were such poor navigators and they had a 'gung-ho' attitude.
