Iltis Tires

As the original tires on the Iltis I have are weather checked and not good enough for on road driving just wondering if anyone can tell me the actual size of an off the shelf tire that will fit on the original Iltis rims and not inter fear with normal operation.

thanks Dave,

Dave, our own Stuart Fedak has narrowed down the choices of modern tires to a particular Goodyear Wrangler. It has a suitably rugged tread, and is only fractionally wider than the originals.

I have seen a few guys using the Michelin 4X4 O/R 6.50R16C. They look good on the vehicle and run a little smoother than the originals. I will be using these when my current tires are done.

The XCL was the second generation of tires for the Iltis. Is Michelin even making them in that size anymore?

Anyone with an Iltis that I know of has made the change over to a wrangler MT in the smaller sizes.

They were available two years ago. No reason to think they would be discontinued. They are a good tire.

It's no surprise to me but Rob was right. I got an email from Michelin today saying they have discontinued the XCL line. Guess you will have to give Goodyear a try.
