Gentlemen,

It's not the best resolution, but it's a photograph of the vehicles used by the RCEME Field Workshop of 27 Cdn Inf Bde during its first year of existence. I'm not a vehicle guy but I'm guessing that most of them are 3-ton CMP's.

Can anyone provide any more information on the types in the photo?

Cheers,
Dan.

Another photo from the 27 CIB in Hanover. This one, sadly, for the funeral of Lt RH Sandilands, RCEME, killed in a automobile accident. Note the highly polished truck, caisson and gun, including the tires. Also note that the truck, in use by the Canadian Army operating a country that drives on the right side of the road, has right-hand drive.

Cheers,
Dan.

Interesting that they are using a CMP LAAT as the gun tractor rather than the traditional FAT. I think the LAAT makes for a much roomier and more useful towing vehicle.

First row: jeep, CMP 15-cwt and Dodge WC 3/4-ton trucks.

Second row: CMP 3-ton trucks with 20-cwt trailers.

HTH,
Hanno

Were they WCs or perhaps Canadian APTs?

Ed,

That's what I thought too, and my guess is they most likely are.

workshop platoon no. 2 section in Hanover 1952

This photo jogged my memory.
These photos are of the workshop platoon in Hanover, 1952.
This was my late brother-in-law's outfit.
There is a Diamond T behind the no.2 section.
As for the WC51's, as Becker and Dentzer point out in their book, the Canadian D3/4APT "was so different from the original WC-52", and since some 12 000 trucks were manufactured, it is unlikely the Canadian army would purchase and use the US WC-52. As an aside, Dodge in Detroit soon adopted modifications from the Canadian truck most notable being improved access on the driver's side and the dashboard.
They also point out that at this time in the war (1945), there really was no justification for building this truck.

When I bet more free time, I will post more photos from the 1950's, plus some photos from 1941 of CMP's.
Ian
